Clare Airport pilots enter the nationwide Piper Cub safety contest with 16 locals competing for a special trophy. 460 days have passed without an accident under Bauer Flying Service supervision. Walter Foell leads, with Howard Dyeks and Bill Foell close behind. several pilots recently completed first solo flights. The contest runs six weeks more, ending September 30.

Washington Pilot Makes Emergency Landing at Clare
A Seattle pilot flying a Grumman Widgeon amphibian from Cleveland to Milwaukee landed at Clare’s local airport after misjudging his location. He descended through 8000 feet of clouds, circled the town, then landed to refuel, before continuing to Grand Rapids and Milwaukee.

Bell Telephone Honors Michigan War Dead in Memorial Services
The Michigan Bell Telephone Company held memorial services at ten locations including Detroit Grand Rapids Kalamazoo Lansing Ann Arbor Pontiac and more to honor 66 employees who died in World War II with plaques bearing their names. Relatives of the deceased attended as special guests. The company once had 3062 in uniform, down to 400 remaining.

Methodist Board Plans Vacation School Meeting
The Methodist Board of Education met in church parlors on Monday evening with a pot luck at six thirty. Mrs. Earl Sterhaman, superintendent, led devotions from Psalm 19 and a song. Plans for departments were discussed and Rev Charles Hahn presented a calling list requesting board assistance. Daily Vacation Bible School will run from June 10 through 22 with a large teacher corps in charge.
