Green Meadow farm powered by family effort and 1200 cow herd
Merle Green of Elsie started with 120 acres 51 years ago and grew Green Meadows into a 1200 cow dairy across 2000 acres. With his sons Duane and Velmer they milk nearly 20 hours daily using two herringbone parlors. They feed about 10 tons of grain daily and provide 10 to 12 pounds of silage per cow, with 300 acres of green chop and 1400 acres of corn grown on the farm. Milk cows are kept in seven pens.
