Intermediate annexation moves toward state approval
Gladwin and Clare intermediate boards completed local steps to annex Gladwin County Intermediate School District into Clare District. A joint meeting approved a plan to submit to the State Department of Education for ratification with a June state board decision expected. Clare boy Berry Sanford killed in tractor car crash
A 14 year old Clare boy Berry Sanford died when a car struck a tractor on Loomis Road near Clarabella in Isabella County. His brother Bradley Sanford and another rider were injured. the tractor lacked lights. The Mt. Pleasant state police investigated the crash and noted Lincoln. Berry was born October 21 1958 in Trenton and survived by his parents four brothers a sister and several grandparents. The funeral was held May 26 at O Laughlin Funeral Home with Elder Lewis Mogg officiating. Burial followed in Warren Township Cemetery Coleman.

Fourth to sixth graders toured environmental sites May 23 in Clare County. Stops included Beaver Country near Lily Lake and Greenwood Township to view a dam and beaver structures. A highway relocation lesson near Gut Lake and Five Lakes contrasted with a deer dissection in Grant Township.

Traffic deaths drop in Clare County in 1972
Clare County recorded 13 traffic fatalities in 1972, down from 14 in 1971, as statewide deaths rose to 2,258 from 2,152. Other nearby counties varied with Isabella, Osceola, Gladwin, Roscommon, and Midland reporting declines, while Missaukee rose to three. May 21 was the deadliest statewide day with 19 deaths.

Harrison woman crafts First Ladies dolls collection
Mrs. Clarence Ritz of Harrison handmade over a thousand dolls depicting First Ladies including Martha Washington and a Pat Nixon figure. She sewed garments from antique fabrics, studied the women’s lives, and displayed the collection at Gladwin Library earning a blue ribbon. Her sister plans to move it to Florida, with a new collection in the works.
