Clare Council 3029 Knights of Columbus held its Charter Celebration at St. Cecilia's Church with Holy Communion Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. J. I. Sruba. Fifty candidates formed the Charter Class, breakfasted at Murphy's Cafe, and degree rituals were conducted by Mt. Pleasant and Carson City staffs. A banquet for 225 guests followed, with dignitaries from Cadillac to Harrison and remarks by Vincent O'Meara and others.

Leo Brown presented the Kiwanis trophy to Don Cappaert for leadership in athletics, with a list of Clare High School athletes awarded letters. Tri County Association Plans Gladwin Meeting

Kiwanis International Annual Convention to Meet in Chicago
Business and professional leaders from the United States Canada Alaska and Hawaii will gather in Chicago for the 32nd Kiwanis International convention June 29 to July 3. About 10 000 attendees will hear leaders and peers discuss service programs with J N Emerson chairing sessions and Norman Vincent Peale delivering the opening address. Earl Bunting of the National Association of Manufacturers will close the event with a final appearance.

Mrs. Catherine Alwood Brown died at his Warwell home at 3 00 am after a heart ailment. She had been at Central Michigan Community Hospital since March and returned home when improved. Methodist Youth Rally Draws Youth From Area Churches
The Clare Methodist Youth Fellowship hosted the Sub-District Youth Rally on Sunday May 18 with youth and advisors from local churches. Registration opened at 6:00 p m followed by a 6:30 pot luck supper and community sing. Page Bellinger presided over the business session. The Rosebush Weidman charge won the largest attendance banner. Rev Robert Straley spoke on youth work and the benediction followed the worship hour with hymns and solos by Dorothy Smith and Bob Gover. Rev Henry Ball is the sub-district advisor.

Overseas Military Grave Service Offered by FTDA
The Florists Telegraph Delivery Association announces an overseas military grave service for wiring flowers to war dead graves in Europe Asia the Pacific and other cemeteries. Approved by the U.S. Army Grave Registration Division the service helps families decorate foreign graves by supplying wreaths and guidance on cemetery location row plot and grave numbers. Local florists can also provide wreaths for city memorials and grave decorations.

Ithaca Commandery No. 40 Knights Templar met in Clare Masonic Temple at 9 30 Sunday with many Sir Knights and ladies. Visiting ladies received American Beauty roses before a procession to Clare Methodist Church for Ascension Sunday service. Reverend Charles B Hahn welcomed guests and preached Go and Teach. Music by Junior and Senior Choirs. Harold Collins played organ. After worship the group dined in the Masonic Temple with red and white decor forming a cross centerpiece. Clare High School to hold sixtieth commencement June 6
Clare High School marks its sixtieth annual commencement with events starting at the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet followed by Commencement day on Friday June 6. The May 16 banquet at the Doherty Hotel featured faculty and student speeches, songs, and a student address by Donald E Holbrook. Prom music was provided by Bob Spencer's Midland orchestra with a Spanish themed floor and various class performances.

Memorial Center to honor local World War II war dead
Michigan State College plans a Memorial Center at East Lansing to honor more than 840 former students and alumni who died in World War II. The complex will include an International House, a Memorial Chapel, and a covered walkway linking units with gardens. The project, funded by voluntary contributions, already has pledges from alumni, students, parents, and friends. The honor roll includes Gale Loomis, James Sparta, and others from the local area who served and sacrificed.
