Clare oil field activity to surge with new wells
The Carmichael oil well number one four miles southwest of Clare is being drilled by George Talbot Company after promotion by R B Comer. Two offset wells named House number one and Crowley number one will follow Bowman producers. Gas shows suggest commercial gas possible if oil is not found in upcoming holes. Rumor says ten new derricks may rise near Clare in the next month as hubbled wells progress at 3525 feet and Bowler and Bothwell operations continue nearby.

State to Count Traffic on County and Township Roads
The State Highway Department reports full county and township road traffic surveys this season in cooperation with the U S Bureau of Public Roads to map traffic origins and aid shares for a statewide system. About 100 selected townships will be sampled to cover 65 000 miles of township roads plus 17 000 miles of county roads and 8 000 miles of state trunk lines with counts across days and months to chart peak travel and tourist traffic.

Seed Piece Size Impacts Potato Yields And Hollow Heart
Michigan State College researchers report that smaller seed potato pieces reduce yield per acre and increase hollow heart. Two year trials at Rossman Brothers Farm Lakeview Kellogg Farm Augusta and College Farm Hast Lansing used Russet Rural seed with piece sizes from 0.5 to 2 ounces. Yields ranged 91.4 to 129.4 bushels per acre with larger pieces yielding more. 1929 had no hollow heart due to good weather. Seed should be cut thick to prevent drying. about 15 bushels of seed per acre for one and one half ounce pieces.

Delilah Scott born November 2 1842 in Tuscaraus county Ohio died May 19 1930 in Sheridan township Clare county Michigan at age 88 6 1. She married Henry Hanes in 1866 who predeceased her. She leaves five sons four daughters seventeen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Eagle church with Rev Frank Bates and interment at Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Anna Hubel Home Lost in Early Thursday Fire
Fire destroyed the residence on the Mrs Anna Hubel farm in the first ward early Thursday forenoon. Loss estimated over 3000 dollars. Cause likely defective flue. No insurance. Occupants included Mrs Anna Hubel, her daughter, and Mr and Mrs George Carrier who had moved from Detroit to run the farm. The building was an old pine structure near the county line road inside city limits. Fire department responded quickly but could not save the building.
