Beaver Escapes Prison Then Foils Officers
Wallace Beaver, previously arrested on prohibition and extortion charges, escaped Detroit House of Correction after arriving March 28 and was at large. He later surfaced in Omaha under the name Melvin, caused a mistaken fingerprint trace, and was recaptured and to be returned to Detroit to serve a one year sentence.

Rural Fire Truck Now Ready for Calls Near Clare
Clare Fire Department announces completion of a rural fire truck built with a Ford chassis and supplied chemical tanks by the city of Clare. The outfit, costing farmers only the chassis, is valued at over 2500 elsewhere and will serve a five to six mile radius. Donations to O A Derby are tracked weekly, with early donors listed and more expected on request.

Last week Thursday Clare county sent four delegates John A. Jackson John Neithercut Ernie Brown and Mr and Mrs L W Jackson to the Democratic State Convention in Flint. Mrs Jackson was elected alternate delegate to the Democratic National Convention in New York City in June.

Allen acquitted in federal court case

Five County League Baseball Opens Season in Clare
The Five County League will start in Clare next Sunday with Rosebush facing Clare. The league includes Clare Rosebush Coleman Beaverton and Gladwin with local businessmen in charge and competent umpires for orderly games. Both clubs are shaping up well and excitement is high as season turnout builds. The Clare at Rosebush rematch is set for Thursday May 29 with the rest of the first half schedule appearing elsewhere.

Last Rites Paid For Theodore Bowler
Theodore Bowler died May 14 1924 at age 47 in Hrankfort Michigan. He was the eldest son of Patrick and Margaret Bowler born April 26 1877 in Ishpeming. A Clare County resident, he attended Clare High School and Ferris Institute Big Rapids earning a Railway Mail course. He served as Railway Mail Clerk for the government from 1908 until his death. Funeral held May 17 at St Gecelia's Church. He left brothers William E Joseph F and sister in law Mrs Bowler plus many relatives and friends. He was devoted to Clare County and Grant township. The community honored him with flowers and many mourners.

Plans for Decoration Day Parade and Service
The city Memorial Day committee announces a 9:00 a m march line at the city park, followed by a 9:15 parade to the cemetery. At the school grounds hundreds of children will join with flags, then a program at the cemetery includes prayers by Rev Milberry and Rev Lohnes, songs, a Memorial Day address, and a benediction. Citizens should be prompt, and poppies will be distributed.
