Attendance records show progress over the past month with notable gains led by seventh grade. The list of students who were neither absent nor tardy includes children from first through eighth grades, with many names across multiple classes.
Ms J H Wilson, delegate from Clare Study Club, sails for Los Angeles for the Federated Women’s Clubs Biennial Convention in early June. A special Michigan Indiana Kentucky delegate train travels via major cities to California, with a coast cruise to San Francisco and visits to Berkeley Stanford Del Monte and the Redwood trees. Wilson’s sister Mayme Pierce will join for a visit near Del Monte and Wilson plans to send weekly letters to The Sentinel.
The Vernon township Board of Review will convene at the town hall on Tuesday and Wednesday June 4 and 4th, and again Monday and Tuesday June 9 and 10 for reviewing the tax rolls and other business. A. J. Archbold, Township Clerk.
An exhibit at the high school June 18 will showcase 150 prints loaned by the Porter Motter Co of Chicago. An interpretive lecture accompanies the display alongside sewing department demonstrations and manual training wares. Proceeds fund pictures for each grade as admission ranges from 10 to 25 cents.
A Clare sight prowler pried open a display window by pushing pasted glass, removed three garments and several neckties from Davys store, and left a note offering replacements if sizes don’t fit. The thief used a fishing wire to gain entry late Monday night.

Advertising note lists worsted work pants priced at $2.00 from H. W. Jones in Aily. The item highlights a bargain for durable pants likely aimed at workers.
Last Saturday Dan Lockwood surprised two men rummaging his Yarwell east of the village. A chase followed with shots fired by Deputy Sherman. One thief fled via Hinkleville corners toward the state road and disappeared. the other vanished after crossing Currie farm. A gold locket is missing from the home.

Reverend H B Johnson spoke at Congregational church to Civil War veterans from Clare and surrounding areas. Nine veterans attended though many were unable, totaling 725 years of age. American Legion members escorted the veterans to the service and they were hosted to dinner by Mr and Mrs Phelps at Phelps Cafeteria.
Clare firemen voted to play a charity baseball game against the Masonic team at Recreation Park on Friday May 30. The 4:30 p.m. start, 25 cent admission for adults and 15 cents for youths, proceeds to aid the Farmers Rural Fire Track project.
Tuesday evening seven auto loads of Pythian Sisters including officers journeyed to Evart where they opened a class in a complimentary manner. The Evart lodge served supper at 7 30 to many members and proved capable entertainers. The Clare members returned home at 2 00 p m Wednesday morning awfully tired but spent a most enjoyable evening.
On Monday evening May 26 Rev. C A Lohnes united Ernest Wickert of Grant township with Berdella King of Coleman in a Congregational church ceremony. Attendants were Edwin Wickert and Ida Mae King. Friends offer best wishes for a long, happy life and a note to buy a poppy for Decoration Day.
A special examination will be held for pupils who were sick or in quarantine during the regular seventh and eighth grade exams. The tests take place at the Harrison courthouse on Monday and Tuesday, June 9 and 10. Seventh grade subjects are on June 9. eighth grade on June 10. Only eligible pupils may write.

Dr Ira Landrith of Chicago president of the Intercollegiate Prohibition Association spoke at Congregational church last Monday praising prohibition as a fact not to be repealed. He credited the W C T U for shaping public sentiment and urged enforcement as the law of the land while noting liquor sales remain high but pales beside past saloon numbers.
At the Methodist parsonage Rev. C. A. Lohnes united Mrs. Myrtie A. Red and Lewis F. Nixon, both of Mt. Pleasant, in marriage. The newlyweds plan to reside in Mt. Pleasant.

An estimated 175 000 Michigan veterans and dependents may qualify for adjusted compensation under a plan promoted by Theodore W. Kolbe. Local American Legion posts will distribute application blanks mailed from a national center, with priority given to disabled veterans and their dependents.
The first Five County League game between Clare and Rosebush was postponed due to rain. Clare will travel to Rosebush this Thursday to complete the doubleheader.
