Rural Fire Responds To Tice Home Blaze
A rural fire truck was dispatched to the Clarence Tice residence two and a half miles south of town Monday evening. Wind toppled a tree onto high tension wires, sparking fire along the insulation but neighbors extinguished the blaze before the crew arrived. No damage to the house occurred.

Mrs Hannah Smalley Dies at West Seventh Home
Mrs Hannah Smalley died at her West Seventh street home on Thursday May 14. Born September 18 1846 in Tuscarawas County Ohio she moved to Noble County Indiana as a girl and later to Michigan’s Colonville area where she lived sixty years. Survived by eight children including Alice Beemer and Cordelia Smalley. husband David Smalley died in 1911. She moved to Clare in 1929. burial by Carl Reinig of Saginaw at Cherry Grove Cemetery after services at the home.

considerable improvement has been made at the school athletic field with a new slide replacing the old one. shop boys completed the project. the field grading and seeding show green shoots. trees including Norway spruce pine birch and maple were planted along the north side by high school and grade pupils. each grade sponsors different trees and will water and care for them. when landscaping and sodding finish the field will resemble a natural amphitheater and be among the finest in the state.

Funeral Services for Mrs Henry Travis Held in Vernon Township
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev C Binhammer for Mrs Henry Travis of Vernon township who died Friday. Burial was in Gilmore cemetery. Catherine Elizabeth Phiele Travis was born in 1867 in Pittsburg Pennsylvania and moved from Wheeling West Virginia to Michigan twenty three years ago. Four children survive: Mrs Elizabeth Chaffee of Pontiac, Mrs Blanche Stinchcombe of Flint, Mrs Isabell Stough of Clare and Vincent at home, plus her husband. Mrs Travis had followed Lutheran teachings since childhood and suffered a stroke, being an invalid for the past year. Mr and Mrs Sidney Chaffee of Pontiac attended the rites.
