A Clare delegation of business and farming leaders toured Detroit's Produce Terminal to study Michigan potatoes against Maine and Idaho. Detroit officials urged unity, quality, and cooperative marketing with a proposed tax on sacks for advertising to restore Michigan’s market position.

Ladies' Night at Hotel Doherty by Clare Chamber of Commerce

The Clare Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Ladies Night at Hotel Doherty with a chicken dinner and a strong musical program. Norris Widen led community singing while Gallagher and Bayes were praised for organizing a large turnout. Ernest Brown welcomed guests and Mrs. B. N. Mercer responded for the ladies. Norris Hilden arranged the musicians and programme.

Insurance Firm Moves Into New Theatre Building

The Clare Realty Company relocates to the Ideal Theatre building under BE Throop and A L Caris ownership. Previously it occupied a building owned by Mrs Mabel Lockwood in Ottawa Ti since 1917 with Wm H Caple in charge. Throop rents the Cobleigh residence on West Eighth Street and moved his family this week from Vestaburg.

Seventy Eight Lakes of Clare County Listed in Directory

The Magazine of Michigan publishes a four hundred page Clare County lakes and trout streams directory listing 78 lakes by township. It notes extensive resort development on eleven lakes, boat liveries on 28, swimming on 38, and frequent use on 38. Names of duplicated lakes and their counts are given, with sources from Clare County supervisors and state officials.

The Millionaire staged tonight by Clare High Junior Class

Clare High School juniors present Juliet Wilbur Tombin s well known comedy The Millionaire a one act benefit style show with nine characters led by Gideon Heath the returned heir. The cast includes Le mot Hamlin Dorcas Louise Topps Blanche Jean Anderson Blanchette Renee Rosendahl Aunt Adeline Lottie Pringle Johnnie Heath Ronald Heath and Fred Lawler. The Girls and Boys Glee Clubs perform between acts and curtain rises at eight with tickets 25 cents for children and 35 cents for adults.

Free dental clinics to aid Clare County children in 1931

The Children's Fund of Michigan will open a free dental clinic in Clare County on June 29 1931 as part of a plan to place clinics in twenty additional counties for twelve weeks. Eligibility covers preschool and school children whose families cannot afford treatment. A county advisory committee led by G R Bogan will coordinate efforts and arrange free examinations and care.

Secretary of State condemns local notary fee on licenses

Frank D. Fitzgerald states that motorist license costs should be $1 statewide. He notes Detroit and other communities charge 25 cents notary fee, making $1.25 total. Local units keep the notary fees and the state office disavows involvement, urging a uniform $1 total.

James McKeever Dies at Farwell Home May 10

James McKeever died at his Farwell area home on May 10 after a short illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday with Rev. Hawkins of Mt. Pleasant officiating and burial in Cherry Grove cemetery. Born September 19, 1857 in Livingston County Michigan, he moved to Isabella County in 1876 with family and lived with his sister Mrs. Brooks in Farwell for the last twenty years. He is survived by sister Mrs. Brooks of Farwell and brother George McKeever of Clare.

Special Bible Services Opened at Baptist Church

The four day Bible conference opened at the Baptist church on Thursday. Rev Mrs Stroup will lead afternoon sessions through Sunday. Mr and Mrs Waln Birdsall and child arrive to direct music with Birdsall on piano and Mrs Birdsall renowned for radio singing. Pastor Rev Chas Stroup will conduct evening services at 7 45 inviting community participation.

Tire and Battery Business Sold to J. W. Lamphere

J. W. Lamphere purchased the battery and service and shoe repair business of the Fred Newsom estate and took immediate possession. He will run it much as before with Goodyear tires and Grant batteries. Dee Stough, with the business about five years, remains as Lamphere's assistant. Lamphere plans to move his family from Port Huron about June first.

Prof Walpole Addresses Teachers On Unit Plan

Professor B A Walpole of Michigan State College spoke on the unit plan of teaching at a schoolhouse gathering. The event featured a dinner led by Home Economics girls, musical selections by the Boys Glee Club, and a clog dance by sixth graders. Attendees included educators from multiple towns, and Mrs Lampman noted similar use of the plan in history classes.

Dover School Homecoming May 20 Held At Closing Day
