Court Session Highlights Two May Clare County Cases
Last week in Clare County Circuit Court opened in Harrison before Judge Wart for a four day session. Most matters were continued or dismissed as no criminal cases were heard. Key cases Akey and Bruce were not resolved by press time. The docket included a land contract suit Middleton v Wilson, Quiet Title suit Graham v Kelly Waltrous, trespass Lamb v Bell, and a divorce Bruce v Bruce, with decisions to come after further proceedings.

Gulf Gas Station Construction Begins at Old City Mills Site
Foreman F. Allman of H. C. Weber Construction Co. started work last week on the Gulf Gasoline Station at the corner of McMinan and 3rd Streets. The 32 by 446 foot white brick building with stucco will replace Clare City Mills after its demolition and is expected to finish within six weeks.

New No-Party Ballots Adopted In Wickstrom Law
Governor Murphy signed the Wickstrom bill creating secret ballots for primaries. Voters will receive ballots from all parties at the booth and cast only the chosen one, depositing unused ballots in a box. Clare Alumni Chapter Elects NHS Officers at Annual Meeting
Nelda Jones was elected President of the Clare Alumni chapter of the National Honor Society for the ensuing year at Sunday’s meeting held at the Clare school. John White Merle Samborn Maxine Jones Elizabeth Feighner named First Vice President Second Vice President Secretary and Treasurer respectively. A committee of seven will assist in awarding pins to new members at graduation. four members chosen for pins are Margaret Cook Marguerite Byba Bernard Ackerman and Frank Regar. A reunion dinner is planned for June 6.

Thomas W. Micheal of Atlanta died likely May 14. A former Clare resident, he worked as a printer at local papers and published Cloverland Farmer. He served in Cuba, China and the Philippines, suffered frost injury in Alaska, and later published newspapers in Rose City and Atlanta. Survived by his widow and two sons.

Eleven groups of ladies in Clare County will hold their annual Achievement Day on Friday May 28 with nutrition as this year’s focus. Directed by Roberta Hershey and Estelle Nelson of Michigan State College, the event features year’s work exhibits, community singing, county activity reports, a Southern Cookery talk, readings, and music. Forty one Clare residents from the American Legion and Auxiliary gathered at Higgins Lake for an all day picnic. Funeral for Mrs Albina Alwood at Brown Corners Church
Funeral services were held at Brown Corners church for Mrs Albina Alwood with burial in Cherry Grove cemetery. Rev. Clapp led the service assisted by Revs BE Town and Charles Kleinhardt. Mrs. Alwood died in Lansing and her body was brought from her former community in Indiana where she and friend Myrtle M. Harger once lived. The two were neighbors and died within moments of each other Sunday noon, with rites held in nearby churches the same day.

Bicknell to Lead Michigan Bankers Association Next Year
Nearly 200 bankers from thirteen counties met in Alma for the annual meeting and banquet at the Wright Hotel. James S. Bicknell, president of Citizens State Bank, was elected chairman succeeding C. W. Riches. Other officers included William McFadden as vice chair man and J. M. Shackleman as secretary and treasurer. Representatives from each county joined the board of directors. Principal speakers were Count Oskar Sederholm of Stockholm on government control and Harry Means Crooks of Alma College. Luncheon followed at Pine River Country Club with golf to close the day.

She joined Disciples Church then United Brother n Church later in Arthur township and Clare where she worked in First Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survived by mother Mrs Margaret Harger brother Riley J Harger two half brothers Wm Coffman Ophir Oregon and Frank Coffman Seattle. Funeral at Baptist church with interment at Cherry Grove.
