Camp Rotary opens for 1944 summer season June 25
Camp Rotary eight miles north of Clare on US-27 opens June 25 for the 1944 summer season with ten seven day periods. Enrollment expected to reach 1000 with over 700 already enrolled and most periods filled. Emil Pfister named Camp Director. Tony Burdo named Waterfront Director. Camp Kiwanis also open July 1 to August 31 for troop camping with own equipment.

Twenty six Clare High School seniors traveled to the Michigan Department of Conservation Training School at Higgins Lake in Roscommon County for a short Senior trip. They toured Hartwick Pines and Grayling Fish Hatchery, saw fire equipment demonstrations, and enjoyed the facilities while praising nature over distant cities. Chaperones included Principal Emil Pfister Carleton Garthe and Mrs Lyle Chapman with Mrs Jennie Gardner.

Born January 21 1865 in Preston county West Virginia he moved to Michigan as a youth and settled in Wise township in 1901. Jennie Putnam Dies After Long Illness at Mt Pleasant Hospital
Jennie L Rodgers Putnam a longtime Vernon Township resident died Thursday May 11 at a Mt. Pleasant hospital after months of declining health. Born 1858 in Mercer County Pennsylvania she lived with her brother McClellan Rodgers and later on the Glass Road farm. She leaves daughter Mrs Harry Schug two grandchildren and a sister and brother. Funeral services were held at 1 30 p m Saturday at the Farwell home and Surrey Cemetery burial with Rev Mary E House officiating.

Bishop Spickerman Dies in Rosebush After Heart Attack
Bishop Spickerman of Rosebush died Saturday morning from a heart attack at his home. Born October 4, 1859 in DeWitt Michigan, he moved to Clinton County about sixty years ago, later living in Denver township and then Rosebush. He married Emily A. Prout on September 15 1886 and had three sons Frank A Curt and Allie, all of Rosebush. His funeral was held at Stinson and Son Funeral Home Mt Pleasant with Rev L A Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Derwin.

Orin Reynolds Farm Home Destroyed by Fire
The four miles northwest of Clare, Orin Reynolds home was destroyed Monday noon after Mrs. Reynolds fought a kitchen fire. Leonard Reynolds and two extinguishers failed to stop an attic blaze before Clare Fire Department arrived. The seven room story and a half frame house with woodshed burned beyond repair, with most furniture saved and losses partially covered by insurance. extent not yet determined.
