A Brown for Governor meeting in Clare organized county committees in Clare Gladwin and Isabella. Clyde Smith, Brown’s state campaign manager, led a drive to form clubs with local chairs Arthur Damoth S J Myers and Gerald Cotter. About thirty five attended and emphasized Brown’s campaign. Michigan reports record 1945 deer hunt with 269977 licenses
Michigan's 1945 deer season set a new state record with 269,977 licenses sold and an estimated kill of 7,721 deer. The analysis shows a 36.2 percent success rate and a harvest near 100,000 deer while stressing the need to harvest surpluses in light winters. Rogcommion led counties with 18,646 hunters yielding 6,899 bucks. Iron county posted the best hunting indicators in the north peninsula.

P. B. Davis Dies at Lansing Home After Illness
P B Davis aged 58 died at his Lansing home after a brief illness on May 8. Born August 21 1887 in Paulding Ohio he moved to Clare county Michigan in 1902 then to Lansing in 1917. He married in 1915 and left a wife Em na, four sons Collins Harland Ronald and Paulin daughter Mrs Robert Terbeek of Columbus Ohio. surviving siblings and grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Gorsline-Runciman funeral home with Rev T H Myers officiating and burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

Denton O. Sproat aged eighty seven died at Butterworth Hospital Grand Rapids after a three week illness. He spent most of his life in Grand Rapids in real estate for the last twenty years. Funeral services are set for 3:00 this Friday in Grand Rapids with interment to follow.

The Clare Rod and Gun Club and conservation officers planted 122000 fingerlings in Clare County last week including 20000 rainbow and 102000 brook trout in small streams. The club funds a summer outing and school session for four boys at Higgins Lake and invites members to nominate candidates. A cleanup day at McKay Park Perch Lake is set for May 2 with a potluck after work and club provided coffee and hot dogs.

Three Young Men to be Sentenced on Rape Charges
Leonard and Randall Dougherty of Clare were arrested May 8 by Sheriff Seaver Amble and arraigned before Justice Jennings Archambault. Both pled not guilty then waived examination and were bound over to Clare County Circuit Court. Burley Hall of Coleman faced May 10 arrest, waived examination, and also was bound over to Circuit Court. All three must be sentenced after Probation Officer review. Chas Hess of Midland county was charged with drunk and disorderly conduct at Chuck and Roys Tavern in Clare, pled guilty, and chose a $387 fine over 20 days in jail plus one year probation. he paid the fine.
