World War Hero Col George C Waldo Dies at 64
Col George C Waldo commanded regiments of the 32nd Red Arrow Division in World War I and earned praise at Hill 212 and the Argonne. He died Sunday in Dearborn Veterans Hospital after leg amputations from wounds and gas. Survived by wife Shirley two daughters five grandchildren. Services at William R Hamilton Co Chapel Cass and Alexandrine at 2 30 p m Wednesday with American Legion and Red Arrow Club participation.

Fred Kniffen Dies at Sister’s Home Near Clare
Fred Kniffen born March 29 1879 in Montcalm county died May 5 1942 at his sister Mrs Hifie Blystone’s home in Clare Michigan. He was 63 years old and survived by one sister several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday with Rev Honderich officiating and burial at Cherry Grove cemetery.

The County division of the Michigan Educational Association held its last meeting of the year at Wilson State Park Harrison on May 12 with forty teachers in attendance. Retiring President Paul Lowrey of Clare presided and officers for the next year were elected: Reynold Mick of Farwell High as president and Mrs Ivah Emery of Harrison as secretary. Morrel Clure of Clare was reelected as delegate to the Legislative Assembly for two more years. The next meeting will be held after the fall opening of school.

Next Thursday May 21 a large Civilian Defense rally will be held at the city park at 7:00 p.m. followed by a mass meeting at Clare High School. A State Police demonstration of marksman ship and a motion picture on incendiary bombs fire fighting and Home Defense will conclude the program inviting all residents of Clare and nearby counties to attend.

Lake George Merchant Dies at University Hospital
Tom Nichols a well known Lake George merchant, farmer, and real estate dealer for twenty years died in University Hospital at Ann Arbor from infection in an ulcerated tooth. He was brought to the hospital Wednesday for an operation and died Thursday morning. Funeral plans were not yet announced. A detailed life story will appear next week.
