Clare Chamber of Commerce closes summer meeting with gas talk
The Clare Chamber of Commerce met at St. Cecilia church to close the summer session with about one hundred attendees. Fr. Stan ley Morrison and others heard from Art Thus McNamara on the gas situation, urging Michigan consumers against waste and high prices. The group announced an A Capella College program at the high school with no admission charged, proceeds a silver offering.

Robert Winn manager of Great Lakes Motor Bus Co. said the company has secured a franchise to run a Lansing to Straits motor bus line over the entire length of U S 2. He expects to begin service around June 1 with a Lansing start.

Former Sheridan Resident Dies at Indiana Home
Ira L. Gardner, 69, died April 27 at his home six miles south of Remington, Indiana, after a long illness. He leaves his wife, two sons Mehhill of Flint and Robert of Fowler, a daughter Mrs. Pearl Atkinson of Fowler, and nine grandchildren. A former Elm Grove resident, he left the area about two years ago.

Clare native Lee Dunwoodie dies in Detroit home
Lee Dunwoodie born November 15 1879 in Isabella county lived in Clare for 38 years before moving to Detroit in 1918 with his family. He served twenty seven years in railway mail service and is survived by his wife Elizabeth Ryan two sons Frederick and Robert his mother and sister Mrs Lena Reading. Funeral services were held May 3 at his Detroit home and a brief service at the Clare grave.

Illness Claims Gladwin Editor Isaac Foster at 66
Isaac Foster editor of the Gladwin County Record died at Saginaw General Hospital after a two week illness. He founded the Record in 1931 and served as postmaster for four years. He was Probate Judge from 1916 to 1928 and held county offices including School Commissioner and Register of Deeds. He is survived by two daughters and a sister.

The final meeting of the Clare Good Literature Club was held in the High School Home Economics room. Miss Osgood and Home Economics girls prepared and served a banquet. Committee credit goes to Miss Secoy Mrs Wylie and Miss Reagan for spring decorations. The program featured the club quartet plus readings and numbers. Mrs Lampman presented president Mrs All dread with a sandwich toaster in appreciation. The annual reports closed the year’s activity.

Esteemed Clare Lady Passes After Illness
Mrs. M. R. Howlett of Clare died Sunday evening at her East Fourth Street home after several months of illness. Born Elizabeth L. Allen January 6, 1881 in Sault Ste. Marie, she married M. R. Howlett in 1897. Survived by husband, two sons Edson R. and John, mother Martha Fox, sister C. C. White, brothers William Allen and John D. Allen, six grandchildren, and other relatives. Funeral services were held Tuesday at her residence with Rev. H. B. Johnson officiating, Zenobia Chapter Eastern Star conducting the ritual, burial at Cherry Grove Cemetery.
