Three Die In Crash West Of Farwell Friday

A head on collision west of Farwell Friday evening killed Paul Albert Miller 33 of Farwell and Nella Hoag and Jana Van Auker of Mt. Pleasant. Charles Collar Sr. of Roseville Michigan was charged with involuntary manslaughter for driving under the influence. Collar posted bond awaiting May 10 arraignment. Mrs Kathleen Miller and Elmer Hoag were hospitalized with injuries.

MSU students to interview Clare and Sheridan residents

Michigan State University Resource Development students will interview Clare residents on Saturday May 6 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, with a scattered sample of about 30 homes. Sheridan township residents will also answer a similar questionnaire as part of a broader study titled what makes Clare tick.

Farwell High Names Top Grads Warren McGuire Valedictorian

Farwell Area Schools announces valedictorian Warren Michael McGuire son of Warren and Margaret McGuire with a perfect 4 point average. He served as class president and junior year student council president and participates in music for the Greater Michigan All Star Band and the National Honor Society. Area Girls On Revue Winner List at Shepherd High

In Isabella county 4 H Style Revue Rosebush area girls ranked highly among seven delegates bound for the State show. A list of 45 young ladies named winners included Sara Stilgenbauer and Sally Johnson as delegates and pins awarded to multiple participants across Rosebush and Coleman communities.

Dow engineer joins Coleman Board of Education vacancy

Clarence W. Nielsen, facilities engineer on Dow Chemical Co. Organic Chemical Products research staff, is appointed to fill a Coleman Board of Education vacancy. He will serve until the June school election and then seek the two year balance of the seat once held by Harry Ranck.

Cottage thefts lead to arrest in Glare County

Richard Dean age 42 of Clare County was arrested after a large cache of stolen goods from area cottages was recovered. A recovered dinner bell helped link the thefts to the suspect who remains jailed after failing to post bond. The haul includes furniture, TVs, hi fi gear, lamps, dishes, bedding, tools, rifles, shotguns, ammo and even mounted deer heads. The sheriff notes the thief stripped cottages bare and several pumps were removed or damaged in the break-ins.

Mrs Campbell Named Girl Of Year In Beta Gamma Chapter

Margaret Campbell was named Girl of the Year by the XI Beta Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. The Founders Day dinner at Mt. Pleasant announced the honor. She is wife of Judge Robert Campbell and mother of Lee and Kay.

Wheat Pool Could Raise Farm Profit

Michigan Farm Bureau members could store wheat at market and receive part of the price then with the balance after sale under a proposed wheat pool. County leaders met April 27 at the Pratt home to discuss the plan and inform members. future details to be shared by county directors. The May board meeting will be at the new county building in Harrison.

Farm Workers to Receive Workmen’s Compensation Phased

Senate Bill 432, approved 21 to 12, extends workmen’s compensation to farm workers on a four year sliding scale. First year one third, second year one half, third year two thirds, then full benefits. Senator John Toepp of Cadillac hails the measure as vital for farmers and workers.

Coleman’s New Bank Contract For Clare Citizens Bank

Citizens Bank and Trust of Clare contracts Leiter Brothers Construction of Clare to build a new banking office in Coleman at Rail Way and Third Streets. The 3000 square foot main floor plus full basement will include five teller stations a vault a drive in window and offices. The colonial style building will have brick and wood siding off street parking air conditioning and occupancy is planned for late fall 1967.

City commission members could not decide on Fifth Street parking limits after a long session with property owners and state officials. They will study widening the south side to add a parking lane and consider shared costs since Fifth Street is a state highway.

L L Boys Begin 67 Season With Parade and Triple Header

The Little League season opens Sunday at Little League Park near Shamrock Lake with a parade and a triple header. Bryant Mobil faces Citizens Bank at 2:30, Stanley Oil plays Anderson Drug at 3:00, and Clare Hardware meets Alexander Shoes at 7:00. Hearing Set in Coleman School Contract Dispute

Midland Circuit Court Judge James R. Rood ordered a temporary restraining order against the Coleman Community Schools Board and Superintendent to stop discharging or replacing teachers. A May 5 hearing will decide if the order becomes permanent and if the agreement clause requiring signed individual contracts violates the Michigan Tenure Act for Teachers.
