Clare County residents donated to the Easter Seal sale led by Mrs. Clayton Neff. Total contributions through April 27 reached 495 dollars with more coming in. Clare County School sale netted 24.24 dollars, Dover and other rural schools also performed well.

Scout Executive Frandle Speaks to Rotary on Camp Plans

He described a Canadian land grant offered for a boys camp with 36 square miles of land for Scouts and Rotary use. Clare Rod and Gun Club Holds Annual Banquet
The Clare Rod and Gun Club held its annual banquet at St. Cecilia's social parlors with Rev. Fr. C. Daniel Brophy giving the invocation and Jack Hall leading singing. Kiwanis joined for the event. Ted Bowlan acted as toastmaster and honored donors for park land gifts to McKay Park and Eberhart Park with life memberships. A bee for park road work was announced at Martin Eberhart Park, and Bob McLaughlin of the Michigan Department of Conservation spoke on conservation and showed a film about soil testing and land restoration. Officers elected this spring include Chairman Omer Parent Vice Chairman Leo Brown and Secretary-Treasurer Henry Kinsel.

Forest Fires Burn About 400 Acres in Clare County This Year
Dry weather and carelessness have sparked about 30 fires across Clare County, to date burning roughly 400 acres. Last week five fires consumed 69 acres, with the Hatton township blaze scorched by 30 acres before firefighters, including Jim Clute and Fire Chief Richard Woodcock, controlled it. A new V type fire plow aided the effort, and officials urge permits for any burning to prevent further losses of timber and wildlife.

Mrs Sam Bruce Laid To Rest In Greenwood Township
Mrs Samuel Bruce longtime Clare county resident died at Harrison on Monday after a brief illness. Born November 3, 1866 in Battersea Ontario she moved to Saginaw then Greenwood township in 1885. She married Samuel Bruce October 16 1887 and left eleven children forty one grandchildren twenty three great grandchildren and one adopted son. Emerial services were held from the Continued on Page Hight.

The Pattit Kapplinger post of The Veterans of Foreign Wars approved buying a national flag and post colors for the Memorial Day parade and ceremonies this month. Unsolicited donations were received from M A Doherty for Doherty Sons, 50 dollars, and M D Feighner for The Clare Sentinel, 10 dollars. The post membership has grown to over 125 veterans of sea and foreign service under the United States flag.

The Women s Bowling League of eight teams held its annual banquet Thursday April 26 at 7 00 p m in the Hotel Doherty. Curtis Thomas home destroyed by fire near Clare
The Curtis Thomas home three miles east of Clare on US 10 burned to the ground at 12:00 midnight while the family was away. The Clare Fire Department saved the nearby garage but two dogs died. Loss estimated 6500 to 7000 dollars, partially insured.

Mrs E Fanslay Dies at Daughter's Home in Detroit Area
Eva Louise Nass born in Germany November 11 1867 came to the United States in 1890. She married Jacob Fanslay in Cleveland February 14 1891 and raised six sons and six daughters. After living in Clare County Michigan since 1902 she moved to Detroit in 1938 where she died April 28 1946 at 7 15 am after pneumonia. She was 78 years five months and seventeen days old. Funeral services were held May 1 1946 at 1 30 pm in Clare County and 2 pm at St Johns Holy Lutheran Hamilton Township Clare County with Rev B C Leyrer officiating. Burial in Arthur Township Church Cemetery.

Four County Community Dairy Day plans were announced after a Clare dinner with Kraft Foods manager John Schellhas and local ag agents.
