Clare High School Faces Possible NCA Accreditation Loss

Clare High School may lose accreditation from the North Central Association after a review found violations in library seating facilities and guidance ratios. The district considers a second warning and may seek five percent of equalized valuation or a special bond election to regain status. State aid may be postponed to July 1, 1971, due to fiscal conditions.

Voters approve two Harrison School District tax measures

Harrison voters approved a 10 mill operating levy renewal and a 2.9 million bond for a new high school and elementary buildings. Turnout reached nearly 47 percent despite severe cold and poor driving. bond supporters called it a tremendous victory as crowding and accreditation issues loom.

Clare County Population Up 43 Percent in 1970 Census

The 1970 census reports Clare County population at 16 695, up 43.3 percent from 1960. State population stands at 8 875 083, up 13.4 percent. White residents make up 99.7 percent of Clare County, with 1 340 children under five and 4 692 ages five through 17. The county is 15.8 percent urban and 84.2 percent rural with 5 345 households and 12 802 housing units. Median owner-occupied house value is $9 700 and median rent for tenants is $71.

Refund delays hit Michigan taxpayers over missing W-2s

IRS District Director Thomas A. Cardoza warns refunds may come later this year as Michigan filers omit W-2 wage statements. Each W-2 must accompany a return or a duplicate obtained from the employer. Delays also occur for missing Social Security numbers unsigned returns arithmetic errors and illegible data. Cincinnati Service Center reports 247 370 Michigan refunds totaling 76 554 457.
