Clare voters approve three year operating millage
Clare voters approved a three year millage of 15.5 mills for operational funds in a special election. The renewal passed 508 to 281 with 792 voters and three spoiled ballots. Property owners continue paying 15.50 per thousand of assessed value. Harrison voters will face renewal and bond questions.

Clare considers snowmobile ordinance to ease city travel

Winter blizzard claims 74 year old in Clare area
A 74 year old Mt. Pleasant man, Joseph F. Dick, was killed Saturday when his car stopped in a blizzard and was rear ended by a milk tanker near Herrick Road on US 27. Several others were injured in related crashes as drifts reached six feet and winds hit 45 mph. Police reported a separate incident where a car rammed the Economy Drug Store after a driver hit the accelerator while attempting to move, injuring his wife. A bomb scare at Ken's Hardware proved false and the store later reopened. Other weekend accidents included a Beaverton Road train collision injuring Lewis Denton and his wife Ethal in Clare County.
