Miss Frauleen Thayer of Vernon and Rudy J. Cotton of Mt Pleasant wed on February 25 at eight in Mt Pleasant. Rev. O V Fedeke officiated at the parsonage with Mrs Fedeke and Donald Huber as witnesses. Afterward the couple stayed in Alma at the Wright Hotel, where a “Just Married” sign appeared on their car. The bride, a Central State Teachers College alumna, has taught in Clare County and now heads the Hinkle school in Grant. Mr. Cotton, son of Sheridan residents, previously ran Cotton Radio Hospital and later worked at Milloy Electric Studio in Mt Pleasant. They will reside at 502 East Broadway.

Jay Green Home Damaged by Fire on West 8th Street
The city fire department was summoned to the Jay Green residence on West 8th Street Thursday afternoon. Fire consumed much of the upper floor and attic despite high winds and heavy smoke. The blaze was contained, but extensive damage occurred. origin is undetermined though thought to have started in an upstairs room and spread to the attic.

Highway program keeps thousands off welfare rolls
State Highway Commissioner Grover Dillman said over 21,000 men and their families are supported by highway department work. The two week period ending February 15 showed 1,043 on federal emergency road and bridge projects, 533 on regular construction, 8,326 on maintenance, and 5,692 on reconstruction finance program work.

Many Garments Completed for Welfare by Legion Auxiliary
The Walter H. Larman Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary held an all day sewing session at Ruth Parent’s home from 10 am to 5 pm. They finished garments for the Clare County Red Cross Welfare Department including blankets, nighties, diapers, dresses, and children's clothing. The fourth meeting is planned at Ivore Gort’s home on Friday, March 17.

Hatton Man Dies After Pole Weighs Down Load
Alfred Abbott 68 from Hatton township fatally injured Tuesday afternoon about four thirty when a binding pole loosened from a load struck him north of the Cornwell farm. He died at seven that evening after aid was called. Survived by three sisters and a brother. Funeral Friday at Dover Tabernacle with burial at Cherry Grove.

John Haring Dies After Brief Illness
John Haring died at his East Fifth street home on Saturday March 4 after a four day illness. Born February 27 1860 in Württemberg Germany he immigrated in 1879. He married Lena Russ January 3 1886 and lived in Vernon Township and later in the city. Surviving are eight children Christ Anna McGivern John George Charles Marie Dora and many grandchildren with his wife. Funeral services were held at Thurston Funeral Home led by Rev C Binhammer and interment followed at Gherry Grove cemetery.
