Hatton Pioneer Mary Caroline Magnus Dies at 83
Mary Caroline Hahn Magnus died at home in Hatton township Clare county Michigan on Saturday February 24 1951 after a short illness aged 83 years nine months and 13 days. Born in Wertingen Germany April 11 1867 she came to the United States as a young woman and married William Joseph Magnus December 5 1888 in Chicago. Survived by daughters Freda Bronson Lydia Larman and sons Edward and Henry with 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral February 27 at Docker ty Funeral Home Rev Leslie Nevins officiating burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Isabella County 4 H Beef Tour A Success
The Isabella County 4 H Club hosted a beef tour led by Mr. Finley showcasing members’ animal handling. Winners included Jack Jarman Anna Marie Swindelhust Robert Smith and Mrs Swindelhust. Plans for a Service Club initiation March are set at Eastern Slag Hall Blanchard with a Pine River Church lunch. The week of March 5 9 will focus on 4 H camp building a new wing with carpentry and cement work. Community help is invited for meals and labor.

Willis Richards Dies at Fort Custer After Stroke
Willis Joseph Richards a long time Clare resident died at Fort Custer Veterans Hospital after a paralytic stroke. Born July 24 1892 in Ipswich South Dakota he was 58 and a World War I veteran. He leaves a Milwaukee sister Mrs R D Shepherd and other relatives. Funeral was held at St Cecilia's Church with Requiem High Mass and burial in St Cecilia's Cemetery.

Clare Pioneers upset Coleman Comets 36 32 in Mt Pleasant in the district tournament opener. Corey led Coleman with 10 points while John Dwyer and Ted Hoersch each had 10 and 9 for Clare. The game featured a tight scoreboard with Clare trailing 21 18 at halftime and 30 28 after three quarters before a 8 2 fourth quarter burst gave Clare the win.

Ex Justice In Jail For Fraud In Jail For Fraud
A warrant for Armand Hagen former Harrison Justice of Peace was sent to Pontiac where Oakland county sheriff's officers arrested him. He was returned to Harrison and arraigned before Justice Glenn Sherman on three forgery uttering and forged instrument charges and fraudulent signature on a $1000 note. He demanded examination with a March 7 date and was remanded to custody in $2,500 bond.
