Vernon field BOOM in non oil drilling drives new wells
Activity in the Vernon field has surged with nine new wells under development. Currie on section 5 and Busche on section 10 near Wise township show potential to expand the field westward if successful. Wells at Jake Maliar farm and Stewart Beatty farm near Clare and other sites are advancing, with depths ranging to 2000 feet on Currie and 1100 feet on Verette and Stough.

Last Saturday evening the Clare rural truck fought a fire at the Vernon township home of Mr and Mrs Tim Regan. The blaze damaged the house heavily and only part of the household goods were saved. Estimated loss is about 4000 with partial insurance coverage. Outbuildings and barn escaped danger.

Saturday at high noon in Brown Corners Rev. Chas Kleinhardt united Miss Mabel Korkoske and Mr Otto Haddix in marriage using the ring ceremony. Workmen complete last three mile stretch on U. S. 27 project
Sixty eight workers from the county welfare committee report for a U. S. 27 concrete job north of the city. The mixer moved to the north city limits last weekend and concrete is being poured north of Schaeffer hill. The 15 mile road is expected open to traffic by August first.

Clare Supervisors Open June Session Monday Morning
The Clare County Board of Supervisors opened their June session to tackle many items. They endorsed a Legislature resolution extending 1932 tax payment deadlines to November 1, 1983, with Moore-Holbeck terms for 1935 and earlier years. Heat wave shatters June records across Detroit region
The June heat peak hit 100 degrees in the shade on Tuesday per the Detroit Weather Bureau. The bureau notes June 27 set all time records and temperatures rose again Thursday noon as a dry spell continued. Farmers fear crop damage as corn beans and beets suffer while oats run short and wheat begins to ripen. Rainfall was sparse with showers reported in Mt Pleasant Rosebush and Harrison but little relief to dust. Hay crops remain heavy after May rainfall.

Sheriff Edmond Woods traveled to Detroit to seize Theodore Slogum 32 who escaped county custody after a Friday night pursuit. Slogum is wanted for sodomy against the nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Roy Bergey of Summerfield township with the crime alleged Friday afternoon.

Robbers Target Three Businesses Over Weekend
Over the weekend robbers attacked Jim's Restaurant on West 4th Street and the Dixie Villa gas station, damaging doors with bars and stones but failing to enter. Bank Receiver Anticipates Payment of Dividend
The Clare County Savings Bank was taken over by a court appointed receiver on January 24 1933. He filed inventories and issued claim blanks for depositors, resulting in eighteen hundred claims to verify and offsets to deduct before final payment. Preferred claims hearings have concluded and payment will be made once the Banking Department sets the amount. Cash earnings from assets exceed total expenses by eight thousand five hundred dollars.

Father of local welfare chairman killed by train
William L. Case, 76, longtime Michigan lumberman and former state senator, was struck by an Ann Arbor freight train near Benzonia while walking along tracks.
