War Is On For Beetles
The 1962 battle against Japanese beetle begins with nearly 20 000 traps placed across Michigan locations by July. The program is a joint effort of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the U S Department of Agriculture. Yellow lantern traps hang about three feet up and lure beetles from a 500 foot radius using aromatic oils. The oil is nonpoisonous but should not be ingested.
