Farwell School Bonds Sought For New Junior Senior Building

Farwell area schools board approves a 700000 bond issue for a new junior senior high school. Election day is August 7 with a July 9 meeting in the Farwell school gym to share plan details and seek input. A prior 895000 proposal was rejected nearly three to one. The plan calls for a site beside the existing school with a 15 year financing schedule and a half mill operating levy to reach a 3 mill total for state aid.

Southbound US-27 Freeway Lanes to Open Thursday

The state highway department will open a four mile stretch of southbound US-27 between Clare and Harrison to traffic on Thursday. Completion ends the final two way segment on the Ohio-Soo Freeway from M-59 north of Brighton to Waters a 186 mile span. The Pierson Contracting Co. of Saginaw built the section at 982137 dollars.

State Group Meets Here

Michigan Society of Osteopathic Anesthesiologists met at the Doherty Hotel on June 17 with Dr J R Gershon host for the occasion. About thirty from state hospitals heard papers by Detroit and Zeiger Osteopathic Hospital residents. Speakers included Dr Edward Tehari on neurological complications in anesthesia and Dr Mac Benjamin on emotional needs of patients. Dinner followed and wives and children received pool privileges.

Kiwanis Win Travel Trophy With 90.4 Percent At School Election

Kiwanis club retained the traveling trophy after the June 11 school election with 90.4 percent of its members voting. Dr. J. R. Gershon, Kiwanis president, reported the club led all competitors in voter turnout.

William Seitz Jr. Dies of Heart Attack in Clare

William Seitz Jr. aged 28 to 30, a former Freemont coach and longtime Federal Reserve Bank examiner, died after a heart attack at Clare General Hospital. Born January 5 1920 in Jackson, he served in Europe during WWII, earned degrees in physical education and counseling, and is survived by wife Virginia and daughter Katie Jo. Missing 13 Year Old Boy Found After Wander Return

A 13 year old boy, Josh Wunsch, wandered from his parents in a Clare restaurant Tuesday evening. Local authorities and State Police conducted a search until he was found safe at his Traverse City home on Wednesday. He was described as unusually large for his age, about 5 ft 9 in, 175 pounds, wearing a light shirt and shorts when last seen.

Don Smith Declares Candidacy for State Representative

Don E. Smith a 46 year old Farwell businessman filed nominating petitions to run as a Democratic candidate for State Representative from the Clare Isabella district in the August 7 primaries. A Farwell resident since 1947 he owned a gas station until 1954 and now works in life insurance. He has served on the Board of Education including as secretary and president, on the Village Council as assessor and clerk, and as supervisor of Surrey Township. He also sells real estate and is a former Rotary and PTA leader. Married with four children he has chaired the Supervisors committee and serves on the Clare County zoning and Supervisors Commission. His campaign is expected to be strong and his candidacy has been approved by county committees.
