Former Alpena man arrested for bad check in Clare

Gordon A. Budreau, 27, sought by six Michigan police departments on bad check charges, was arrested in Clare after cashing a worthless check at Hotel Doherty. Police responded after hotel staff alerted the bank. Budreau, jailed at Harrison, faces a hearing.

Hustlers Visit Mammoth Cave Trip From Methodist Church

Forty one members of the High School Hustlers class of the Methodist Church traveled to Mammoth Cave Kentucky by carpool after a 5 30 am departure. They hiked seven miles through the cave between Monday and Tuesday, enjoyed meals and hotel entertainment, and returned home Wednesday with drivers donating car expenses.

Wehrly Named Quality Control Head in Midland Division

Harry J. Wehrly promoted to manager of Quality Control for the Midland Division. Dedication of Eagle Church Solemn Sunday Service

The Bethel Eagle Church held a formal dedication Sunday June 12 with a Friday night social in the basement led by the Ladies Aid. Aid Beaverton Tornado Victims

Twenty five neighbors helped Norman Roback and his wife in Beaverton after a June tornado cleared the damaged home. They removed debris and poured a new footing for the foundation as volunteers share a potluck lunch. A fund has raised 470 dollars. The Robacks live temporarily on the Ernest Scheele farm nearby.

Farwell Rotary Club Launch Event Set June 22

A Cuarter Night program on June 22 marks the launch of Farwell's Rotary Club. An expected crowd of over three hundred Rotarians and guests will attend at the Farwell school gym. William H. DeHart, former Rotary District Governor and Sparta Michigan school superintendent, will speak at the banquet. Harold Schaeffer is named Rotary International president’s representative. The Farwell club will meet weekly at Twigg's restaurant, with Clare and nearby clubs aiding in arrangements.

Nevins Reappointed To Clare Farwell Methodist Charge

Rev Nevins and his wife return to Clare Farwell to begin a seventh year as minister. The Michigan Conference met in Albion for four days with lay member Judge Donald E Holbrook and other delegates attending. Several church improvements including a new parsonage have been completed as memberships grow. Other Michigan charges added new pastors and reassignments including Gladwin and Rosebush.

Area 4 H ers Judge In Canada

Nine area 4 H ers traveled to Ontario Canada for judging at the Shorthorn Field Day. Phillip House and Larry Anderson from Rosebush and Bill Carter of Clare won the Second Place Team title with Phillip also the high individual. Mignon Mogg Joe Burch and Bob Neveland formed Isabella group’s Third Place team. Wayne House Margie Swindlehurst of Rosebush and Mitchell Geasler of Lake claimed Seventh. Earl House was the high adult. Carter and House tied for first in selecting top four heifers. The group left Friday after workouts in Genessee and Lapeer counties. Earl House led one carload.

Blood tests announced for Clare area food handlers

Food handlers in Clare and surrounding areas will have blood tests next Tuesday and Wednesday June 21 and 22 at City Hall. Hours are 9 to 11 am and 1 to 5 pm under the Tri County health unit and Michigan State Health Department. A registered nurse will administer the tests with Dr Irwin Sweet and a state health doctor present. Tests will be offered later at Farwell and Harrison.

Fred Jones Named To Road Board

Fred L. Jones of Summerfield township has been named to fill the vacancy on the Clare county road commission created by the death of Carl Bauer. Bauer was elected last August. The County Board of Supervisors appointed Jones at its June 13 regular meeting.

Picnic Draws 2200 Despite Rain at Harrison Fairgrounds

An estimated 2,200 picnickers attended Clare Manufacturing Co’s annual employees picnic at Harrison fairgrounds. Despite showers, crowds enjoyed hotdogs, beef sandwiches, ice cream cups, 500 milk halves, and 175 cases of pop, with prizes, games, and an amateur show entertaining under the grandstand and VE hall.

Clare County to redraw plans for new jail at Harrison

Clare county officials announced a second bid process will be opened after the county board rejected the latest jail bid. The Jail Committee led by Albert Haley will work with architects Cuthbert and Cuthbert to devise new plans that fit the $135,000 bond limit. Special meetings will be called before the next general session to advance the project.

Clare Rod and Gun Club Hosts Inter-Club Trap Match

Clare Rod and Gun Club hosted an inter-club trap shooting match with Lake Rod and Gun Club Lake George Rod and Gun Club and Highland Gun Club on June 12. Highland Gun Club led with 106 broken targets while Lake 98 Clare 81 Lake George 73 Roy Phillips of Lake posted high day with 21 of 25. A second interclub shoot is set for June 26 at Lake George Red and Gun Club with a trophy to the winning club after four Sundays of shooting.

City zoning groups discuss tentative plans for districts

Clare's city planning committees met Tuesday night and outlined ten tentative zoning plans dividing the city into business industrial and residential areas. Chairman O. D.
