US-27 To Open For Traffic By July 4th

Gas and water mains completed, storm sewers and basins installed, and paving advancing on US-27 east side from tourist park to Sixth Street. Six lanes planned from Woodward Motors to south city limits with two parking lanes in the business district.

Conservation Law Violations Cause Trouble
Frost township resident Tra Dunn was arrested June 7 by Conservation Officer Wm Griffin for illegal venison. He pled guilty before Justice Glenn Sherman in Harrison, received 10 days in county jail and two years probation with no hunting license. Donnelly and Hubbard pled guilty to taking sunfish during closed season and were fined 17 dollars each in Municical Court. Ronald Walker was fined 12.50 dollars after pleading guilty to bass and sunfish violations in Garfield township.

Rev. L. J. Nevins completed a week at the Michigan Annual Conference in Albion and is assigned to the Clare Farwell charge for his third year. He reported the Clare Methodist Church has no debt and has shown progress over the years. The conference featured notable speakers and few area changes, with 90 changes statewide. Judge Donald Holbrook, conference lay leader for Clare, attended and was named delegate for the North Central Jurisdiction to meet in Spring 1952. Other ministers returned to charges include Dr. C. W. Mackenzie at Mt. Pleasant for 23 years, and pastors Robert E. Neumann, James Peters, Charles B. Hahn, Willis J. Dunn, Robert L. Straley, Loyal Thornton, and John W. Bullock.
