Clare Golfers Lose to St Johns at Twin Elms
The St Johns club won the first inter city match of the golf season on the Twin Elms course Thursday June 6 beating Clare. Bob Pen glase was low medalist and Bill Kelly shot 79 for St Johns. This was Clare’s first Central Michigan Golf Association meeting since wartime restrictions and players said they felt rusty after the layoff. Mt Pleasant club to be hosted here this weekend for the second match.

Rev Charles B Hahn attended the Michigan Conference at Albion June 6 to 8 and returned to Clare Sunday. Ethel Dustin Breen, longtime Clare area resident and former teacher, died June 5 at Lakeview Hospital. She married Geo. Breen of Grand Rapids and later lived in Lakeview. Funeral services were held June 7 at Lakeview Chapel and Grand Rapids. she was a longtime member of the Eastern Star and Methodist Church. She leaves a husband, a daughter Evelyn of Cleveland, two sons Howard and Irwin, and a brother Motives Dustin of Pontiac, with many relatives and friends attending.

Thayers Expand Frozen Storage at Clare Dairy Plant
The Thayer Dairy has erected a 24 by 36 foot Quonset hut behind the plant for temporary storage until a brick structure can replace it. They added 300 new frozen storage lockers to the existing 500, with all current lockers contracted but a limited number expected later. Former Clare Resident Bernice Wells Dies in Dade City
Bernice Cook Wells 67, longtime Clare resident and church musician, died Saturday at Jackson Memorial Hospital after a three week illness. A Lansing native born March 17, 1879, she studied music in Michigan New York and Paris and taught public school music in Ithaca. Her husband George B. Wells survives with their three Clare-born children. she was active in Dade City Presbyterian Church and Alpha Sorosis.

Community Dairy Day Highlights Four County Fair
More than a thousand farmers gathered in Clare for the Four County Community Dairy Day. Officials included Paul Gibson and county agents from Gladwin Isabella and Midland. 4 H Club and HE.F.A. contests crowned winners and dairy cattle showings featured Holstein Guernsey and Brown Swiss classes.
