Open House Plans for Clare County Jail Dedication
Dedication ceremonies for the new Clare county jail will be held at the Harrison jail on Tuesday June 25 with an open house for public inspection. The program starts at 2 p.m. with remarks by Board of Supervisors Chairman Albert Haley and master of ceremonies James S. Bicknell I. Local officials will be introduced, and speakers include Russell Strange Jr William Nestle Ivan Guthbert and Donald Holbrook. Benediction by Peter A. Oman closes the event. Landscaping is complete and the facility is described as among the best in Michigan.

Wheat Marketing Quotas On Referendum June 20
Clare County voters will decide two issues in the June 20 wheat referendum. A two thirds vote is required to approve marketing quotas and penalties for excess production. If quotas fail, acreage allotments stay in effect with price support at 50 percent and penalties absent. Voting will be at Sheridan Town Hall.

Clare High 1957 Class Graduates In Outdoor Commencement
The second largest Clare High School class, 72 seniors, received diplomas at outdoor exercises on Wednesday at the Clare athletic field. Principal William Harper introduced the graduates. Dr Daniel Sorrells spoke on Today’s Design For Living. scholarships were presented by Superintendent Richard Wheeler. the program included the Class Memorial and National Honor Society introductions. About 600 friends attended.

Peony Bloom Promises Floral Spectacle at Vernon Hill
Mr and Mrs Frank Pringle tend a ten year old peony bush on Vernon Hill loaded with about 300 buds and expect a grand bloom. A live bait box used by I M Freeman at Bailey Lake yielded a crane visiting for meals, prompting Freeman to seal the box. Kids camped under paper boxes on West Fourth Street to greet passersby then moved to West Fifth Street. A confused doe wandered into Eastwood Hills near Dale White’s home. the deer fled past City Mayor Seiter’s pine hedge, raising talk of a possible deer runaway next November.

First Wins Rosebush School Board Seat By Twelve Votes
Incumbent Orrin First regained a Rosebush board of education seat by a 12 vote margin in annual elections held Monday. First polled 215 of 418 votes, defeating Harold Flaharty who had 203. First serves a three year term. he has seven years on the board and is a local Isabella Township farmer active with 4 H and the Rosebush Community Council.

Rosebush Boy Burned In Tractor Fire
Herbie Flaharty aged 14 of Rose Bush was hospitalized in Mt. Pleasant after a tractor fire ignited his clothing. A loose gas cap leakage was blamed and he rolled on the ground to smother the flames. His mother drove the tractor into a garden plot to stop it. He is reported to be recovering well.
