Missing Girl Tells City Police Dime Novel Yarn

Imogene Moore, 15, of Mt. Pleasant, previously claimed to be Barbara Langmire from Lansing, gave a fabricated tale of being abducted by two boys near Clare. She confessed to the ruse after State Police traced her, revealing she had been missing since June 4 and had been with another boy in Bay City.

Army Engineers to hear Saginaw Valley problems Thursday

Governor Sigler will attend the U S Army Engineer hearing in Sag inaw City Auditorium on June 19 at 9 45 a m to address drainage flood and water issues. Daily Vacation Bible School Opens at Clare Methodist

Two Boy Scout Troops Receive First Charters

Clare Rotary Club hosted its first annual Picnic for Clare Boy Scouts at Lake George on June 10. Troop 125 received charters for Temple 147 and Lake George 148, with tenderfoot and merit badges awarded to Clare scouts. Valley Trails Council spoke on Scouting values as the crowd formed a friendship circle and a party followed the ceremony.

Soil Conservation Committee OKs Vote In Clare Referendum

The Michigan State Soil Conservation Committee approved forming a Clare County Soil Conservation District after a May 8 referendum. A board of directors will meet June 19 at the Court House to select officers and plan a technician-assisted program for the coming year with aims to start by July 1.

Congregational Church Receives New Hammond Organ

Congregational Church members celebrate the arrival of a new Hammond organ installed Monday evening. It will be heard at the June 15 Sunday service with Harold Collins guiding the choir and organist classes planned for several church members. Dedication is planned for late summer or autumn.

Rev William Powe Speaks on Compulsory Military Education

Reverend William Powe of the Congregational Church spoke at a Rotary luncheon on Wednesday noon. He argued for youth military training, citing Army support for retired personnel appearances and addressing common objections. Patty Finkerton, 12, performed two Diana solos as guest artist. Early Settler of Clare County Passes

Cyrus W. Reed born April 21 1856 in Jefferson Ohio died June 6 at age 91 after a long life in Michigan. He lived near Loomis the last thirty years and passed away at Albert Middleton’s home where he was cared for. Funeral at Loomis church conducted by Rev Roscoe Berthume with soloists and piano. Interment in Cherry Grove cemetery.

Fire at East Third Street home prompts quick Clare response

Clare fire department responded to a fire at the Norm Lackie residence on East Third Street at 4 15 AM Tuesday. The overheated motor in an electric refrigerator caused the blaze, but occupants extinguished it before firefighters arrived and only the motor was damaged.
