Four Injured In Early Sunday Clare Traffic Crash
Four Clare men were seriously hurt when a 1937 Ford driven by James Ostrowsky crossed the center line on US-27 just south of Clare at 2:30 Sunday morning. Ostrowsky and Sam Sheredy escaped injury as the latter steered onto the shoulder to avoid collision. injuries ranged from facial lacerations to possible cervical fracture and a fractured knee cap.

Wise Township Pioneer John Burns Dies at 82
John Burns longtime Loomis resident and Wise Township pioneer died at his Loomis home on May 28 after a year with ill health. Born May 15 1865 in Bedford Canada he came to Loomis with his parents at age six and worked as farmer grocer and lumber company employee before retiring to near Loomis. He leaves wife Anna son John F daughter Lena Mae Bunting two brothers Thomas and James. three grandsons and a great grandson. Funeral services were held at the Loomis Missionary Church with interment in Loomis cemetery.

Softball Season Opens June 16 at Local Field
The 1947 softball season will begin Monday June 16 on the school athletic field. Fourteen teams plan to play in league action with a new double elimination format to form fast and slow league divisions. Lights are being installed by Selley Electric to enable evening games, financed by gate receipts and fan support.

Second Beaverton Girl to Reign As Dairy Queen
Margaret McKimmy a 20 year old Beaverton resident and Michigan State College student will be Michigan Dairy Queen during June National Dairy Month after winning a milk ing contest. She milked 8.8 pounds in five minutes earning a cash prize from the Michigan Dairy Council. Last year’s queen Retha Badger, also from Beaverton, works in Clare at the Art Damoth Agency. The paper suggests a Clare appearance for Four County Dairy Day on June 17.

Governor names eight counties to planning commission
Governor Sigler appointed representatives for eight more counties to the Saginaw Valley Regional Planning Commission bringing the region to twenty counties with representation except Ogeman and Roscommon. Plans Complete for Four County Dairy Day
Plans are practically complete for Four County Dairy Day at the Clare Tourist Park on Tuesday June 17 sponsored by dairy interests in Clare Gladwin Isabella and Midland counties. The Dairy Cattle Consignment Sale begins at 12:30 open to all breeds with pedigreed cattle limited from each county. Breeders seek blue and purple ribbons in breed showings while five female classes are listed no bull classes due to safety and limited ring space. Exhibitors must have eligible cattle registered or transferred and receive no cash prizes though ribbons and personal satisfaction are rewards. The Daily Day committee will pay each exhibitor five dollars per animal to offset expenses and an unloading chute has been built for the show.
