Alma journalist Caris Brown dies after weeklong illness
Caris Brown 74 longtime central Michigan newspaper man died Friday evening at Carney Wilcox Miller hospital in Alma after a weeklong illness. Born July 25 1869 on a Clinton county farm he worked at Alma and Elm Hall papers and once in Lansing. A lifelong Mason and Knights Templar member he held roles in the Episcopal church and fire department. Funeral at St Johns Episcopal church conducted under Masonic auspices with Knights Templar escort to Riverside cemetery.

Military Rites For First Clare County War Dead
Henry Delos Tigner, Clare county's first service member to die in the line of duty, is honored in military rites. Born October 29 1922 at Sanford, he served as welder before enlistment February 17 1943 and died June 4 1943 at Camp Mackall North Carolina after heat prostration at age twenty. He is survived by parents six sisters four brothers and many relatives. Remains were moved to the Doherty Funeral Home in Clare.

Coach Leo Brown, Superintendent Austin Bates, and family escaped injury Tuesday evening when Brown's car was struck by a motorcycle on Hastings Street in Alma. Lloyd Curtis, 28, of Alma, drove the bike and was hospitalized with back injuries. Theo G. Bowler and others were not hurt.

One parcel per person per week, weight under five pounds, length under fifteen inches, and girth plus length under thirty six inches. Include a written request and A P C canceled envelope.
