Registration divided into two periods for Clare and northeastern Clare County. The first four days next week will run at Clare City Hall under Dominick McConnell and Larry Beck with 9 00 a m to 9 60 p m hours. Farwell City Hall hosts the Farwell area under Mrs. Allen R. Graham. Harrison Study Club handles the northeast. Temple area registration is led by Mrs. Frank Sullivan Jr. One family member can register for all but must bring all War Ration Books. Applicants with excess sugar or lacking books should apply for an adjustment and provide last year’s canning amount, current sugar on hand, and expected canning for this year.

Twelve year old collects tin foil for war effort
Jackie Stinson of Clare mourns his Uncle William Hutchinson who died aboard the U S S Houston in the Java Sea battle. The Detroit youth delivered twenty pounds of gathered tin foil to the American Red Cross hoping it helps make bullets to avenge his uncle’s death. He is an honor student at Blessed Sacrament School and safety patrol member. The Hutchinson family once lived in Clare.

A large crowd gathered for the Clare Memorial Day parade led by the Walter H. Larman Post color guard. The procession included Legionnaires, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sons of the American Legion, and Clare High School Band. Thomas Mills Dies in Gilmore Township May 25 1942
Thomas Mills born September 10 1862 in Canada departed this life in Gilmore township May 25 1942 at age 79 years 8 months 15 days. He lived in Clarksville Michigan from ages three to eleven returned to Canada then moved to Farwell before buying a Gilmore Township farm. He married Lizzie Wright in 1890 who died 1938 and later married Edna Hampton in 1940. Funeral services were held May 28 at the Gilmore Church of Christ with Rev J S Penick officiating, burial in Gilmore cemetery beside his wife.

Florence Holmquist Dies in Storm Electric Wire Accident
Mrs. Florence Holmquist aged 47 of Pontiac was killed Friday evening when lightning struck a power pole during a storm and she was trapped in high tension wires. She leaves a husband, five children, parents, three sisters, one brother, and many relatives. Funeral services were held Monday at the funeral home with interment in White Chapel Cemetery. Accompanying relatives to Pontiac were Mr and Mrs EH Fisher, Mrs George Bryant and daughter Marjory, and Sgt Donald Bryant of Edgewood Arsenal attended the rites.

Federal court finds Loeffler guilty of urging insubordination
German resident Christian Loeffler, age 64, convicted in Bay City federal court of urging insubordination by four U S soldiers. Jury deliberated under an hour and Judge Tuttle will refer sentence to probation officers. Loeffler denied the accusation calling it a lie and blamed a Clare faction.
