A defective chimney is suspected as the cause of a fire that destroyed the home of Mr and Mrs Major Davis in Sheridan Township on Tuesday afternoon. The rural fire truck arrived too late to save the structure and its contents. The following day the home and much of the contents of Mr and Mrs William Lowrey in Vernon Township were also destroyed by fire caused by an oil stove explosion.
