Memorial Day Crowds greet Clare parade and dedication

Bright Memorial Day drew large crowds in Clare as residents and visitors lined the parade route and attended a remembrance program at Cherry Grove cemetery. Dr. Eugene Gillaspy spoke to about 300 attendees before a rifle salute honored military dead, while farmers seized the dry day to catch up on planting.

Explain Wheat Pool At F B Meet

Clare County Farm Bureau members who grow wheat may hear an explanation of the new Farm Bureau wheat pool program Friday evening June 2 at eight o'clock. The meeting was approved by the Clare County Farm Bureau Board of Directors at the May 25 meeting at the new county building. Normal Hutchinson presided. The Young People's Seminar committee reported with plans to send Debbie Kapplinger Mike Oman and Niki Oxen under as students to Camp Kett Seminar in July with Darlene Kleinhardt and Gertrude Frizzell as alternates.

About one third of Clare county land in plots of 10 acres or more is owned by nonresidents. Michigan State University graduate student Douglas McEwan gathered data from a 2 questionaire among landowners. Much land is recreational forestry and owners cited escape from noise and confusion as a major reason.

Final Week For Grads Starts Sunday Night

Graduation ceremonies for the 80th class at Clare High School begin Sunday evening June 4 with the Baccalaureate in the gym and end Thursday evening June 8 with Commencement in the gym. The 1967 class of 113 seniors includes 18 National Honor Society candidates.

Farmers shift focus from corn to hay crops and sorghum sudangrass hybrids due to the backward planting season. With moisture ample, 60 to 65 degree soil favors a high yielding short season crop. Drill 35 to 40 pounds of seed per acre after corn planting or after rain for 2 to 3 tons per acre in 5 to 6 weeks and leave 6 to 8 inches of stubble for regrowth. The crop suits chopping and dry lot feeding.

In Clare Little League both divisions show tight races after six Little League games and three Minor League games. L.L. Crash On Surrey Road Kills 19 Year Old At Scene

A three car crash near Clare on the Memorial Day holiday eve left one dead and seven injured. A 19 year old West Branch youth died in the collision at the Surrey Road corner.

MM College to Add Seventh Trustee in 1968

Mid Michigan college plans its first regular election since becoming a community college district. A new seventh member will join the six existing trustees in June 1968, with three seats filled for six year terms. The current board includes Paul A. Rhoades, Charles Amble, Thomas W. Rock Show at Clare Rock & Mineral Club Event

The second annual rock hobby show by the Clare Rock and Mineral Club is set for Sunday June 4 at Isabella County Fair Grounds Merchants Building from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can view rock specimens and finishing process demonstrations and may support the club's Pine Tree painting project for the Lansing capitol.
