Clare women golf players who missed the Central Michigan Tournament at Portland met at the Clare Country Club course to compete for low score on blind holes. Afternoon play saw Mrs. William Lange take a prize ball for low blind-hole score. Next Wednesday August 4 the St Johns ladies visit for a 9 30 tee off and players hope to reach the course early. Seven year old Frank Cotton of Clare was nearly crushed when a rear tractor wheel ran over his body. He fell from the moving vehicle but rubber tires may have saved his life. He received minor injuries and was discharged the next morning from Clare Hospital.

The Clare American Legion Junior Baseball team opened the second half with a solid doubleheader sweep of Ithaca after an uneven district final loss to Bay City 17 to 5. Wayne Alwood Dies in Dearborn Veterans Hospital
Wayne Nedry Alwood a World War I veteran born September 18 1893 in Helen Ohio died July 21 1948 at the Veterans Hospital Dearborn Michigan at age fifty four. He lived in Eden Ohio and Clare with relatives before death. Funeral services were held at the Church of God at 2 00 PM Saturday with Rev Noble C Davis presiding and he was buried in Arthur Township Cemetery beside his parents.
