The Isabella County Youth and Farm Fair runs Wednesday to Saturday August 11 14 with four days of events. The Clare Public Library annual meeting notes a rise in book circulation, 200 plus new titles added this year. Mrs Marold Fleming chaired the session with officers re elected except treasurer Virginia Richardson who resigned. Hilda Tibbits elected to succeed. The treasurer received a special allowance for mailing and related costs.

In a free hitting contest the Church of God defeated the VFW 11-10 to stay tied for first with Farwell amid loose fielding. Houghton star Jeff drew the Church of God within the night, while Johnny Musser delivered clutch pitching. The month closes with Temple beating Bauers 4-3 in a tight game and the Church of God routing the VFW 9-4 in nine innings. Wally Rilett led the Church attack with three triples.

Miss Mary de Bruyn of Maastricht has adopted four graves at the Margraten Cemetery in Europe’s largest American war grave site. She bicycles eight miles weekly to place flowers at Lieut. Don Ridenour’s grave and hosted radio talks about Holland. A cross of red and white dahlias marks his birthday as a High Mass is held Sundays in Margraten.

Fire Threatens Wheat Crop Near Clare
Firefighters from Clare respond to a Tuesday blaze at Matt McCon nell farm five and a half miles south of Clare. A cigarette butt reportedly set stubble and a quarter acre of standing grain ablaze before controls arrived. Walters Bound Over After DUI and License Suspension Trial
Floyd Walters of Clare was bound over to circuit court after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated and having a suspended license. He received two days in jail, a $10 fine, and costs. The Clare Junior Police and the Clare Midgets split softball games with Farwell on Wednesday afternoon. Farwell won 11 0 in the first game and Clare captured the second 28 5. Plans are under way for the Clare Midgets to play under lights at the Clare school athletic field next week. The Junior American Legion team fell 6 2 to Mt Pleasant with Mt Pleasant’s George Elliott delivering timely hits. The local Legion team faced Midland at Clare Thursday and will meet again next Tuesday August 10.
