W C Cornwell explains stance in regard to pond on his Clare County property near a power dam on the North Branch of the Tobacco River. He details years of development efforts, the dam site plan, and transmission lines to support upbuilding of the county. Continued on Page Twelve.
Entire community plans a July 26 ceremony for U S 27 north of Clare with traffic control by Supervisors and the Highway Department. A day of golf, softball games, chicken dinners, ice cream, and music features speeches by local officials and a ceremonial fire truck presentation.
County Agent P D Gibson and Isabella county extension agent W C Cribbs announce a July 26 meeting at the Clare school auditorium. Federal Land Bank representatives will speak along with Cribbs, outlining loan types and providing detailed guidance for farmers seeking funds.
Earl Clyde Sprague born August 1 1872 Kirksville Mo died July 18 1983 Greenwood Township aged sixty years eleven months and twelve days. He married Etta Budd January 22 1893 and had ten children four in area. Funeral at home in Greenwood with Rev Clapp North Star officiating. burial Greenwood Cemetery. Numerous relatives and friends mourn his passing.
American Legion Auxiliary and ex service men from the Tenth Michigan district and families are invited to a district outing at Wenonah Beach hosted by Harding Oak Craidge Post No 18 Bay City. They plan a full day with a business meeting, speakers, baseball, games, swimming, drum corps contest, and park dancing with free admission and prizes.
Dr J Norris Asline son of Mr and Mrs John A Asline completes internship at Grace Hospital Detroit and will practice with Dr Jones Clinic and Samaritan Hospital at Bay City He earned an MD and is set to open a private office at the Clinic Married Marion Hotalling in 1931 and resides 800 Main Street Wisexville Michigan with plans to host friends after August 1st
Plans are under way for a Clare county agricultural fair to be held mid September. The Board of Supervisors has appropriated funds to aid promotion and the organizing committee urges farmers and cattle owners to display their best products.
The Gas Corporation of Michigan sold a Mueller gas heating plant to Citizens State Bank and it is being installed this week by J. B. Doherty and Son. B. A. Anderson has bought a Barrier Conversion Burner for his drug store on McEwan Street to be installed soon. Central Plant heating rates will apply to these furnaces.
Sheriff Edmond Woods located Raymond Dean 45 who escaped Ithaca county jail last year after a auto theft sentence. He lived in a Lake George resort cottage with a woman who used the name Leona WeWitt 21. They were returned to Gratiot county. Dean will finish his sentence and the woman remains held as a witness.
The Rev. Niel McIntyre known as Scotland's Blind Evangelist will conduct evangelistic meetings at the McBain Gospel Tabernacle from July 22 to 30. Schedule includes Marion and Winterfield Town Hall events, plus intervals at Temple Town Hall and Morey Community Church, with open-air gathering on July 29. Public invited. Dr Hess Pry Spray ad claims cow protection without milk taint at Mussell's Drug Store.
An early morning crash on James Hill five and a half miles north of the city on U S 27 sent seven people to medical care. Injured were Leo Shultz Donald Kellerman Margaret Morgan Phyllis Schaaf and two Grayling men.
Allen Crum resigns after eleven years at Sturting Gas station to become manager of the Cities Service tank distribution service in this community. He extends thanks to loyal customers and hopes to meet them again. Henry Stutting will fill Crum’s former post.
Tra Richmond advertises guaranteed house paint at $1.98 per gallon and barn paint at 99 cents, with a sale running through July 30th.
Washington reports the 1933 Yearbook of the U S Department of Agriculture is available free to the public with prompt fulfillment of requests. A supply of the 1932 edition remains for those who desire it, requests sent to Hon Roy O Woodruff 1717 House Office Building Washington DC.
Walter H. Larman Post No. 122 of the American Legion held its annual meeting Monday night at Clare City Park but moved to Clare County Savings Bank lobby due to rain. Commander Oden read the treasurer’s report and officers for 1984 were elected, including Omar F. Hall as Commander and Norval L. Tibbits as Senior Vice Commander. Alexander Wylie named Delegate to State Convention. installation planned after Grand Rapids convention.
The Baptist church will sponsor a two week summer Bible school directed by Misses Jeanette and Helen Carlberg, Moody graduates. It runs 9 30 a m July 24 to August 4 with no sessions on Saturdays or Sundays. No age limit. Students need a Bible pencil and paper and a gift awaits every enrollees who brings a Bible Monday.
A special meeting of the Northern Michigan County Road Commissioners Association was held in Cadillac with 21 counties represented. A. L. Burridge outlined federal direct aid rules as Oceana county’s admission expands the group to 33 counties. George McCabe was elected president after A. P. Peterson resigned. Burridge announced a $12,736,227 state grant plan with 25 to 50 percent allocations guiding road projects and municipal extensions.
R A Leffingwell longtime city resident died Wednesday night at his home on Wheaton Avenue after a lengthy illness. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 00 PM from the same residence with Rev John Lockyer officiating. Interment will be in Cherry Grove cemetery. A life sketch will appear next week.
At the Ideal Theatre enjoy cool comfort with a Friday double feature Hard to Handle starring James Cagney Blondie Johnson and Blondell. Saturday offers Hidden Gold with Tom Mix and Charley Chase comedy. Sunday and Monday present Peg O My Heart with Marion Davies in Technicolor revue and news. Clyde Beatty in The Big Cage returns Tuesday and Wednesday.
