New US Route Signs Erected To Guide Travelers To Clare
New 10 by 10 foot neon route signs were installed near North Bradley and Grayling to direct traffic to Clare. The signs read The Short Route Stay on US-27 and The Short Route Stay on US-10 and cost about 600 dollars yearly with six towns sharing maintenance for five years. Aldh and Sons built the signs amid praise from motorists and local groups.

Wayne Foote of Army cabin won the Y M C A Mystic Lake Camp Derby near Glare on June 29 with a 22.5 inch pike. Bob Miller of Illinois cabin took second with a 20 inch pike and Dick Galloway finished third with a 19 inch catch. The event is part of the camp’s 26th season and runs every two weeks.

Vernon Pioneer Ted Crowley Dies After Heart Ailment
Ted Crowley a Vernon township pioneer died at his Vernon farm home Saturday noon June 30 1951 after years of heart illness. Born May 31 1872 in Mt Carmel Ontario he moved to Vernon township as a child and lived there over 60 years never married. Survived by a sister in law several nieces and nephews and many friends. Two Women Sentenced in Circuit Court at Harrison
In a special Circuit Court session at Harrison on June 30, Myrtle Shumway was found guilty of assault with intent to murder and sentenced to 13 1/4 to 15 years in the Detroit House of Correction for shooting her husband. Forrest Strong, 28, of Lake, pled guilty to statutory rape and received one to 15 years in the Southern Michigan State Prison at Jackson. charge involved a 25 year old Lake girl. Prosecutor Harold B. Hughes represented the People of Michigan in both cases.
