Grant Township pioneer William Carl Garchow died at age 88 after a stroke on October 11, 1950 left him bedridden. He leaves two sons Carl and William and five daughters living in Clare and surrounding areas. The thirtieth Walters reunion was held Sunday near Dover at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walters. A picnic lunch was served at noon and the afternoon was spent visiting. The Clare School District No 2 annual meeting in Clare High School on July 9 at 8:00 p.m. will elect two trustees to replace Leo Brown and Harl Ruby and vote on an operating tax increase of 2 percent for one year and the transfer of debt retirement funds to the operating fund. Ballots list yes or no on the tax increase and name the district officials.
About 125 clergymen lay workers teachers and agricultural leaders will attend the fifth annual Rural Leadership School at Michigan State College July 16 27. The conference aims to study rural community problems and improve coordination among agencies serving rural life.
A gas station on East Fifth Street was broken into Thursday evening June 28. The cash box held $75.78. Entrance came through a window after removing the center bar. Police are investigating.
