Glare high school defeated Midland high 20 to AI in a hard fought home contest. Clare led early with free throws and field goals while Midland traded baskets. Clare held a 10 to 7 halftime edge and dominated the second half as Midland added only two free throws. The reserves split 10 to 9 with Midland taking the lead. Harrison Independents edged Clare Independents in a rough second game. Clare heads to St Louis for a tough schedule with Evart looming February 15 at home next.

Two Aged Citizens Die at Temple
Mrs. Amelia Oraine aged 79 died at her Temple home January 14 after a stroke. She had lived in the community about fifteen years and is buried in Red ding cemetery after services. Clinton Jaquish died at his home January 17 from cancer in what coroner ruled a natural death. No relatives were located at the time, with others found in Owosso and Carson City. he was buried in Redding cemetery after services.

A Republican convention is called for Clare County at Clare City Hall on February 6 1929 at 11 a m to elect three delegates to the State Convention in Lansing on February 20 1929 and handle other business. Franklin Falk born Medina New York March 15 1849 died January 16 1929 aged 79 years 10 months and one day. He lived in Watertown Michigan and Clare with his brother Obidah later marrying Amanda Smith Smalley in February 1903. A fall during an ice storm weakened his health and he passed away after a cheerful life. funeral at Congregational church with Rev H B Johnson and burial in Cherry Grove cemetery.

James Lackie Dies At Oakley In S Sunday
The remains of James Lackie were brought to Clare for services held Tuesday afternoon at the Congregational church. Rev Scho field of Oakley officiated. He had lived with his daughter Mrs J H Detwiler of Oakley since his wife’s death. Born in Canada January 2 1851 he married Hisse Calthrope July 1 1872 and had six children. He lived in Hatton township Grant and later Clare before passing.

Car in ditch in Isabella County after 4 AM crash
Basil Williams of Clare drove off the road five miles north of the city near the Mc Knight home. The car vaulted 20 feet struck a telephone pole and overturned in a ditch in a freak accident. No occupants were injured.

Claré resident B Rau traveled Sunday to Newton Iowa to tour the Maytag Company plant. He described the aluminum foundry as one of the world’s largest and most modern, with two million pounds of aluminum melted monthly. The firm recently expanded to a six story facility and now produces about 2000 machines daily.

Agent Installs Ten Automatic Oil Burners
Mr. and Mrs. M R Howlett, Clare agent for Silent Automatic Co, attended a Detroit convention and banquet. Howlett joined the hundred burner club and will install ten burners in Isabella Clare Roscommon Gladwin and Ogeman counties over the next year. The oil burner fits furnaces with fire boxes 17 inches or larger and uses thermostat control. He has installed ten burners since becoming agent on October first.

Early Vernon Settler Rosa Stine Dies After Long Sufferings
Rosa Stine, born March 4 1857 in Mineral Point Ohio, died January 14 in Vernon after forty years of illness. She married Ambrose Horning in 1874 producing eleven children. later married Delbert Taylor in 1923. Survived by many relatives and dozens of grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the McLaughlin home with Rev W S Dudley and burial in Vernon cemetery.

Isabella county collected the last state share of the highway gas and weight tax for 1927 28 totaling 30 352 43 bringing its cumulative refunds since 1926 to 100 631 40. Earlier refunds were 23 656 11 in 1926 80 151 36 in 1927 and 46 923 28 in 1928.
