Clare Wins First Game of Season From Gladwin
Clare high lads defeated Gladwin to open the season in a strong team effort. Allen and Sifian led Clare with several baskets while Doherty and Walton controlled the guards. William J. Waite died January 10 1938 at 103 West 6th Street Clare after a brief illness. He was born 1852 in Philadelphia New York son of John Waite and Samantha Isdell Waite. He worked as telegraph operator in youth, ran a drug and grocery store, rebuilt a fire damaged Philadelphia home in 1893, moved to Minneapolis 1900 as builder contractor, and settled in Clare ten years ago. Survived by widow Carlton K Waite of Louisiana Missouri and daughter Mrs Thomas H Uzzell of White Plains New York and son. Funeral conducted by Reverend H B Johnson of Oxford Michigan with burial at Cherry Grove cemetery.
