Poultry Meetings Set For Monday And Tuesday

Four general poultry meetings led by Extension Poultryman O B Shear will cover winter feeding management and chick raising. Meetings occur Monday at 2 00 p m Winterfield town hall and 7 30 p m Brown Corner school. Tuesday at 2 00 p m Gleaner hall Lake and Tuesday evening at Ein Grove Grange. A Clare County farmer reports a 9 90 profit weekly on 100 hens with simple practices.

Stutting Oil expands gas station on McEwan Street

The Stutling Oil Co completed a 12 by 20 foot addition to its gas station on McEwan Street to improve service. A new hydraulic lift enables car greasing and service, with interior remodeling planned for better customer convenience.

Commissions Seek State Relief Funding For County Highways

Clare County Road Commission and County Poor Commission met State Highway Department officials in Harrison to negotiate a relief campaign fund of about 32000 for county road work. The plan uses hand labor only and awaits federal approval in Washington with a detailed outline to follow, a response expected after several weeks.

Last Rites Held Friday For Mrs Mylinda Peters

Funeral services for Mrs Mylinda Sutton Peters were held Friday from Thurston Funeral Home. A Clare resident for 52 years born in Huron County Canada in 1864 she married Charles Peters and lived in Grant Township before moving to Wheaton Avenue. She died Wednesday morning after living with her daughter Sarah Morrison in Saginaw. She leaves daughter Sarah Morrison husband William and two granddaughters Harriet June and Marilyn of Saginaw plus siblings Dan Manuel Sutton Henry and others.

Miraculous escape on way to funeral after crash injures ministers

Last Friday afternoon Bishop A. M. Johnson of Huntington Indiana Rev S J Potter of Bates Mich and Rev Johnsons wife were en route to Alma for the funeral of Rev S W Birdsall United Brethren minister. A nail tore a tire sending their Studebaker off the road into a guard rail causing a rollover. Johnson sustained a bruised head Potter a broken nose and Mrs Potter minor injuries. They reached Alma for services and later returned to Bates to continue revival meetings with Johnson presiding at the graveside.

Gladwin High B B Team Plays Here Tonight

The Clare high seed basketball squad lost to Evart last Friday in a tight game. Evart forwards used sharp ball handling and shooting with one forward scoring sixteen and the other thirteen in the first three quarters. Clare finally found scoring late as Evart totaled forty while Clare reached twenty. Gladwin's second team faces Clare tonight at 7 30 in the fourth home game after defeats by Reed City and Evart prior to the holiday break.

Vernon Residents Injured in Local Auto Crash

Mr and Mrs John Brief of Vernon township were seriously hurt when their car left the pavement near the McKnight gas station south of Rosebush, struck a tree, and overturned. Mrs Miller removed occupants and helped summon aid. both were treated at Brandstetter hospital Mt Pleasant. The driver suspected a side swipe, not yet confirmed.

William Magnus Dies in Hatton Township Farm Incident

The William Magnus family mourns after his body is found in the sheep shed at Orchard Hill Farm in Hatton township. Magnus, born June 1 1856 in East Prussia, died January 1933 at age 76. He was a respected stone mason who faced health and financial strain. Surviving wife Mary and four children plus eight grandchildren attend funeral at Thurston Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Chas Rieinhardt.

Circuit Judge Ray Wart met the Depositors Committee at the Clare County Court House in Harrison to appoint Allen R. Graham cashier of the Farwell State Bank as receiver. The notice was sent to Lansing for approval and bonds are in place for Graham to assume duties once formalities are completed.

Dr L L Kelley Celebrates 84th Birthday

Dr L L Kelley longtime Michigan physician aged 84 enjoyed a December 29 birthday dinner with sons Eugene Kelley and family Dansville joining Dr and Mrs Kelley and daughters Margaret and Ethel in Okemos Michigan. He trained at the University of Michigan medical school 1875 practiced in Farwell for 44 years and in Okemos 14 years served as state representative and state senator, and held local offices.

William J. Waite Dies in Clare at 81

William J. Waite aged 81 years 10 months and 26 days died Tuesday afternoon at 4 30 at the home of C. Kirkbride in Clare. Rev H B Johnson of Oxford officiated at the funeral with Waite and his wife having moved to Clare in 1922 to reside with Kirkbride after Mrs Waite’s death.

Countywide Economy Cuts Taxes by 68 80 Percent

Clare County highway taxes fell 68 80 percent in the past year as a result of county township and state actions. The total county levy dropped from 28 249 71 to 8 815 12, reflecting reductions across County Township and County Road levies. State highway taxes nationwide saw a similar 68 6 percent cut.
