Slashing Project Aims to Cut Fire Hazards in Northern Michigan
The Michigan Department of Conservation announces a $275000 WPA funded slash disposal program to burn slash on thousands of acres across the Upper Peninsula and parts of the Lower Peninsula. Crews will work this month cleaning roadsides and creating wide clearances to ease firefighting. Also noted are closing dates for muskrat mink and badger trapping and a new ice fishing ruse uncovered by a Mason County officer. The program includes private lands where slash hazards exist and targets dozens of counties to reduce fire risk.
