Michigan Bell extends reduced long distance rates through Sundays and nightly hours starting January 15. Savings cited by manager T C Maher include a 40 cent cut on Claré to Detroit person-to-person calls and new discounts for station-to-station weekend and Sunday connections. The six rate cut in Bell System history covers calls with present day rates above 35 cents and applies to most intercity calls.

Four Mexicans Arrested for Shoplifting in Mt Pleasant
Four Mexicans a husband and wife and a brother and sister were arrested at Mt Pleasant Monday charged with shoplifting in Clare and Mt Pleasant stores. They admitted the charges and said they were raising money to return to Mexico. About 300 dollars worth of merchandise was recovered, including 75 dollars from J J Green in Clare last week. They have been bound over to the next term of Circuit court.
