The 40th annual Farmers Week at Michigan State College runs February 7 to 11 with a new slogan A Century of Partnership Agriculture and Michigan State. Cleland Green and partner Tom Harland opened Pleasant Motors used car lot in Mt Pleasant this week. Green, former Clare man, was vice president and general manager at Beards from 1947 to now. A new building and lighting have been installed and five people will be employed.

Mrs George Teeters is hospitalized in Mt Pleasant after a car crash Friday January 7. The vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree, injuring her while her husband, a Clare post office employee, was not hurt.

The Future Farmers of America is a national intracurricular, non profit youth group in public secondary schools. It teaches leadership, public speaking, cooperative buying, problem solving, and civic responsibility through committees like Supervised Farming and Community Service. The Clare Chapter benefits from a $375 loan fund from the National FFA foundation to aid members in dairy herd aims and cow purchases. CHS Five Tops Indians 48 47 In Close Conference Clash

CHS Five edged Ches Indians 48 to 47 in a hard fought conference game. Gerald Fullerton hit the decisive free throw with eight seconds left after Clare rallied from seven down, while Bill Siel led with 20 points and Pete Brown and Fullerton added eight each. Jack Hall Installed as Clare Kiwanis President for 1955

Jack Hall was installed as president of the Clare Kiwanis Club in ceremonies this month. Richard Groves stepped down as year ends and joined the board as past president. John Parker Former Clare Resident Dies After Car Crash

John Parker 30, formerly of Clare and son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Parker, died in a Los Angeles hospital after injuries from a car accident. Parker, a World War II veteran, lived in Plainville Kansas and worked at an Los Angeles airplane parts plant. He is survived by his wife, his parents, and four brothers.

Sides Chosen in FFA War on Pests Across Tobacco River

Clare Chapter FFA members staged a pest elimination contest with North led by Bill Randall and South led by Tom Beatty. Teams raided barns and fields for rats mice sparrows starlings and two foxes captured. Warfarin bait totaling seventy two pounds was used as the prize bait. South claimed victory and the North must prepare a skating party at the pond in the near future.
