Clare City officials heard City Manager Willard Wedge report that a new water well at the west end of John R street shows unusually soft output from a 124-foot gravel layer. Initial results list iron zero, chlorides ten, total hardness 105 parts per million. a State lab test is planned as operators expect later pumping to raise hardness. Wedge sought Health Department approval to complete a twelve-inch well, estimated cost about 7650 dollars.

Open House for Ss Cae OrcA Hae Farwell High Opens Next Week
The new 175000 dollar Ss Cae OrcA Hae Farwell High School will open next Monday after a May 1954 start financed by a bond approved in December 1953. The 182 by 76 foot building houses 250 pupils, 10 classrooms, a principal's office, a teacher’s lounge, a heating plant, built in lockers, and stone planters for spring landscaping. Open House is Sunday January 23 from 2 30 to 7 30 p m with coffee and donuts for visitors.

County Valley Scout Groups Elect and Plan for 1955
Clare County District Boy Scouts of America elected officers for 1955 including Donald E. Holbrook as District Chairman and Harold B Hughes as District Vice-Chairman. Mrs Russell Sanders Dies In Auto Crash
Mrs Russell Sanders of Clare was killed when her car struck a west Fifth Street railroad switch engine near Ann Arbor at 2 35 a m January 15. She was 29. Police noted skid marks and eyewitness said signals worked and speeds were high. Coroner Carl Stephenson and Prosecutor Robert Campbell attended. Funeral held January 17 at Clare Methodist Church with burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Last week two traffic offense arrests occurred: Charles Prather, 50, Clare, DUI, fined 60 dollars. Rolland Foster, license revoked, with mother Christine Foster charged for aiding DUI.
