Shine Convicted in Special Term of Circuit Court
One of Clare county’s most important criminal cases ended when a jury in a special Clare County Circuit Court session found Wendell B. Shine guilty of armed robbery. Judge Hart imposed seven to fifteen years at Jackson State Prison. The People alleged Shine, with Howard F. Thompson and Delos Humphery, robbed the Hotel Doherty on October 27, kidnapping two employees. Thompson and Humphery had pleaded guilty and awaited sentences. The trial began Tuesday and drew a packed courtroom with testimony from Richard Johnson and Lawrence Knapp among others.
