All enlisted men of the Regular Army Reserve Enlisted Reserve Corps and the National Guard not in active Federal Service will be called to active duty by February 1 1942. Determents target health safety essential industries and dependency must be proven beyond doubt. Those claiming dependency will be deferred only if critical. Men will report to the nearest reception center for assignment.

The watch night service on New Year's Eve at the Baptist Church drew many members and friends. The program opened at 9:30 PM with reports from all departments, student talks, and testimonials followed by late refreshments. Seventh Day Adventist Church Reports Splendid 1941 Accomplishments

The Clare church reports strong 1941 activity including foreign mission gifts totaling 366.67 with 200.13 from members and 166.54 from Ingathering friends. The Dorcas Society organized last winter donated 94 clothing items, 10 baskets of food, 10 bouquets, and produced 35 clothes and 3 comforters during the year.

Fire Chief Albert Haley announced volunteers selected as an auxiliary fire department for Clare and surrounding territory to assist the regular department during emergencies. The group will serve without pay under the national home defense program. Members include George Ramey Dan Mc Donald Acey Parker Joe Sproat Harley Holt Ralph Shoemaker Roy Beltinck Arleigh Gorr Conrad Walker Gerald Winnison John Groves Lyle Chapman George Wisler Verlin Williams and Stanley Parish. A training school will teach defensive duties for the post office building and U S mails, with Francis Jackson appointing four or five responsible men. Former Clare Man Dies From Injuries After Fall

John Alvin Kever of Clare died January 4 1942 at his Vernon township farm after months of illness following a fall from a manure spreader. He leaves wife Catherine a daughter Ruth his mother Mrs Matilda Kever two sisters Myrtle Orvis Mae Bullard and two brothers Earl and Art Kever. Requiem Mass will be held at St Henrys church Friday at 9 30 a m and burial in the church cemetery.

The Clare church session elected Mrs. Lester LeFavour as board member and chair to fill a vacancy caused by Supt H D Kennedy moving away. State Highway Engineers Move to Clare Office

A unit of the State Highway Engineering Department moved into offices in the J B H Doherty block, recently vacated by Prosecuting Attorney Donald Holbrook, on Thursday afternoon. The engineers will operate from Clare for about a year supervising paving projects at Clare Reed City and Marion from the local office.

Elusive Check Forger Arrested Here Wednesday

Jack Burns a 54 year old former Coleman resident was arrested by State Police at the Hotel Doherty for check forgery traced to Clare in 1939. He cashed forged checks at Farmers Independent Produce Co Kroger and A Y Store and evaded police before a Friday attempt at Kroger. He stayed at Hotel Doherty until Wednesday and was arraigned Thursday waiving examination and bound over to Circuit Court. He admitted forging checks. Watch for dates of President's Ball.

Fires Decimate County Farms and Barns in Recent Weeks
