Long community column covers church notices train schedules and a flood of holiday visits. Names include the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Methodist Church leaders, with many residents traveling to Detroit Tacoma and Seattle for celebrations and work.
Pastor Mary E. House leads 10 30 Sunday School. 11 30 a m preaching service. 7 30 p m Young Peoples meeting and preaching service. Cottage prayer meeting every Wednesday at 7 30 o clock.
Through the County Health Unit Dr Thiehoff and County Nurse Miss McDermott will conduct a free health clinic at Farwell High School on Wednesday January 8 at 1 30 pm. They will perform physical examinations for infants and preschool children and provide smallpox vaccination and diphtheria immunizations.
Farwell High School leads a six school league including Mc Bain Marion Tustin LeRoy and Harrison. Each school contributes to fund trophies for first and second place among first and second teams. A season ending banquet will award trophies and honor players, with the plan aiming to boost basketball interest.
Farwell School will reopen January 6 after holiday cleaning by janitor John Waddington. Home economics teacher Mrs. Novia VandeWalker will start a hot lunch program with the Welfare Department and Farwell Woman's Club. Indigent pupils will receive free lunches with others paying a small fee. The program aims to improve nutrition and reduce illness by encouraging milk and vegetables.
The M. E. Christmas program and tree were held Christmas eve with recitations songs and exercises by the primary department. The tableau Waiting for Santa and The Last Carol musical play with an Austrian setting highlighted the evening. Santa Claus concluded the program with thanks to Mrs. Stanford Alonzo and Mrs. Tyn dall for music assistance.
