Her companion Stanley Mullett of Shepherd is hospitalized at Clare General with a crushed neck vertebra and fractured chest bone, likely needing a cast for weeks.

Fred Bingham of Farwell has been officially appointed superintendent of maintenance of State Trunk Lines by State Highway Commissioner Murray D. VanWagoner. He will oversee all state and federal trunk lines in Clare County starting January 1, succeeding the county system managed by Sam Bruce and Chas. Ford under John Asline’s supervision. John Dunlop, a Clare area horse fancier, arrives with a pair of fast square brown trotters, full siblings shown in Illinois and Indiana. Grant Howard Dies at Cadillac Hospital
Grant Howard, 50, a Winterfield Township native and longtime Democratic figure, died December 29 after surgery for a ruptured appendix and peritonitis at Mercy hospital in Cadillac. Survived by wife and daughter, he had served as Clare County supervisor and Marion postmaster, later ran a gas station and cafe. Burial is in Greenwood cemetery after funeral at Marion Methodist church with Rev. Mayhew officiating.
