Mystery of Missing Flint Flyers After Weeklong Search

Two Flint men Ivan Martin and Dr W Murray disappeared after leaving Houghton Lake in a Cub Super cruiser during a blizzard. State and local agencies plus private and Army aircraft searched vast areas of Michigan with no concrete sighting by Sunday. Authorities note the aircraft carried limited fuel and possible crash conditions amid high winds and dense woods.

Clare DeMolay Team Upsets Owosso In Tight Win

The Clare DeMolay basketball squad remains undefeated after a 46 to 45 home victory over Owosso. Red Newman scored 17 and Bud Robaugh 13 as Clare held off a late Owosso surge with 29 seconds left. The win followed a 41 34 lead after three quarters and sets up future matchups in Midland and Flint.

State Geologist Speaks at Kiwanis Meeting Wednesday

Clare Kiwanis Club hosted guests from Clare Coleman Saginaw and Toledo. Gerald Eddy spoke on Michigan natural resources copper iron gas oil and water and the formations they come from. The program highlighted Michigan as a leader among copper producing states. Kiwanis will host Rotary next Wednesday and March 17 Kiwanis Ladies night.

The Local Rotary Club held Ladies' Night in the Wedgewood Room at Hotel Doherty on Tuesday evening. A banquet replaced the luncheon with dancing from nine to one after the meal. Dr. Wilbur Moore of Central Michigan College spoke on belonging to groups shaping national life, while Judge Donald E. Holbrook and Rotary Anns were welcomed by Rotary President George White. The program featured vocal solos by S. C. McArthur, group singing, and Mayhew orchestra provided dancing music.

Clare Rod and Gun Club Buys Clare Dam Site Plan

The Clare Rod and Gun Club met at city hall with President Wallace Johnson. They debated rebuilding the Clare dam and improving the dam site and planned cooperation with the city and civic groups. A monthly meeting schedule and plans for an annual banquet and membership drive were set for March 23.

Word arrived that Lyle J. Murdoch of Northbend Oregon died February 24 at 1 25 p m in Memorial Hospital Miwaukie Oregon He was the son of Mrs Josephine Murdoch and brother of Frank Murdoch of this city.

Fisherman Fritz Methner Killed in Truck Crash Near North Bradley

Fritz Methner a 56 year old wholesale fish dealer and former alderman of Coleman died after his panel truck collided with a Bay City Milling and Grocery Co truck on US 10 near North Bradley. Methner died from a broken neck while pinned en route to Midland hospital. Francis Gilbert of Bay City suffered severe burns as his vehicle caught fire. Methner survived by his wife Jessie and four children with nine brothers and three sisters. Funeral services held at North Bradley Methodist Church with interment in Geneva township cemetery.

Methodist Father and Son Banquet Held February 19

The Clare Methodist Church hosted its annual Father and Son banquet on February 19 with a George Washington theme. Dads and lads enjoyed a Swiss steak dinner served by the W.S.C.S. Mrs Grace Frey chaired. High and Junior High girls served as waitresses. Rev Charles B Hahn gave grace. Robert Tucker acted as toastmaster. David Seiter Jr spoke for the sons and Donald Holbrook Jr for the fathers. Miss Martha Jean McKinnon sang with Doris Gerow at the piano. Professor Fred Bush spoke on a timely topic and the film Beyond Our Own capped the evening.

County Pupil Choir Prepares for Achievement Day Sing

Miss Mabel Miles of Hast Lansing leads Glare county rural teachers in a February 17 music meeting at Clare High School auditorium. County fifth to eighth graders sang together for the first time and will meet March 30 for a final practice before the May 4 H Achievement Day performance.

Caroline Radloff dies at Grant home after long illness

Caroline Barbara Ott Radloff died Saturday February 14 1948 at her Grant township home after a long lingering illness. She was born April 8 1859 in Gundelbach Wirtemberg Germany and came to America in 1881. She and Rudolph J. Radloff married January 31 1882 and had eight children. Funeral held at Thurston Funeral Home with burial in Ott cemetery. She leaves eight children eighteen grandchildren fifteen great grandchildren and many relatives.

Lowery fined for defrauding with forged check and arrests

Robert H. Lowery of Mt. Pleasant was arraigned on a fraud charge involving a forged check and ordered to restitution of 20 dollars plus a 25 dollar fine and 3.35 dollars costs. The case marks his second offense. Other police notes include a hit and run in Harrison, license plate details, and multiple arraignments set for the week.

Clare High Students Explore Labor Relations at Clare Factory

About 35 Clare High School students visited Clare Manufacturing Co on Wednesday February 15 to study labor management relations. The group toured the plant and joined a discussion chaired by Supt. Austin F. Bates with management representatives Noble and Jory and labor reps Rose Eberhart and John William Dunlop. The visit, part of an economics and American government joint class, aimed to gain firsthand insight into labor relations and industry practices.
